Congrats! I was thinking of doing the same ... but now I'm curious ... as we "had" very similar systems (OC'd 2500K/G1 980Ti). And for me in benches with the G1 very little difference if any in "graphics" scores compared to newer platforms even w/8-16 threads [see HERE] ... So with real world gameplay, I'm still hesitant to upgrade my 4+ year old Sandy with it's superior IHS attachment ... Intel still pieves me they didn't continue that superior solid flux method with Ivy/Haswell and I suspect Skylake as well redface.gif

Be honest ... do you "really" notice that much of a difference in BF4 Multiplayer (2500K@4.8 vs 6700K@4.5 DDR4)?

I know in SP gaming there must not be much if any "real world" perceivable difference, even if you also upgraded to 1440p?

I was seriously considering the appx $650 upgrade (like yours) but might hold off again to see how DX12 and 4K shakes out rolleyes.gif
Going all the way back to the Pentium Coppermine (my 1st OC LoL) I've had only one "gaming" noticeable upgrade when I went from a doggy LGA775 Q6600 to my present Sandy Bridge 2500K 5.0+ stable ... well the P4 --> Opty 148 was pretty good too, but you get where I'm coming from wink.gif

@Laithan ... fun thread +R, brings back the days of "locked multipliers" and overclockers were real men LoL tongue.gif
Good times @Guru3D/DFI Street - Opty craz with the Lanparty nF3 and nF4 chipsets biggrin.gif

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but the Reddit/Nvidia server was busy (page wouldn't open?) ... anyway I see your point but some of the benches were at 1080p and your original post looks like you forgot to OC your 2500K (shows stock clocks) certainly can't argue with your new 6700K FPS BUT again @1080p you will see a bigger difference in FPS compared to 1440p.

AND ,,, from above ... "real world"
"Do you "really" notice that much of a difference in BF4 Multiplayer (2500K@4.8 vs 6700K@4.5 DDR4)?"

No, it doesn't report the actual clocks properly. How could I forget to OC my 2500K when I had it running at those clocks for 3 years?
What I can tell you about Battlefield is that all my minimum FPS are much, much higher. My frames used to drop to 100FPS in BF3, now they sit at 144FPS and don't budge.

I have a 144Hz monitor BTW--wasn't planning on upgrading to 1440p any time soon.

I have a 790i that I just upgraded to Win10 from Vista as a clean install on a Samsung SSD. I had to use Windows generic drivers for the SSD.

I do have a sporadic BSOD error that I've never been able to track down (happened on Vista too). Could be heat related but under full load its only 53C which should be fine.

If any 790i enthusiasts want to give me a hand getting stable, I'll post/send details.

Thanks so another confirmation that Win10 works on these boards. thumb.gif

Personally I'm avoiding Win10 until M$ stops tracking everything I do but that's another story smile.gif

As far as getting it "stable", do you mean a stable overclock? If so, I can help smile.gif I've been overclocking these boards for a while now and they ARE very tricky but once you dial them in, they work great!

If you are referring to getting Win10 stable, well I don't have that installed so I couldn't help but I am experienced in troubleshooting in general. Assuming the install is clean, BSODs could be related to not having chipset drivers installed and/or "good" drivers for other peripherals. You mentioned your SSD but that should be using a generic AHCI driver from the O/S anyway that is expected. BSODs are also sometimes related to BIOS settings on these boards, ESPECIALLY with memory parameters. I'm sure you are aware of how sensitive memory settings can be on this board. Are you running the same speed/settings as with Vista? Ever have a BSOD with Vista? If you run @ STOCK CPU speeds and AUTO for all memory settings (No SLI memory setting enabled ((YES it was called SLI memory back in this day! haha)) ), how does it run?

Post some details I'll try to help if you want.
Yes, using the stock AHCI driver with the SSD plugged into the "special" red SATA port, which you must do to use the AHCI driver on this board. This is only SATA I (1.5GB/s), so that's the SSD bottleneck. Also an FYI, the SSD tried to use the NVIDIA drivers to start. You have to roll back to the generic microsoft one.

I mean no more BSOD >.< Yes, I got them on Vista. Even after all driver updates, etc. Swapped out video card, still got them - never swapped out RAM though.

Was going to overclock when I built rig, but life got in the way. Never got a stable OC so I said screw it and went back to stock settings. Get a BSOD about once every other day when I use it to game. I never got around to fixing the issue due to lack of time to get the board dialed in. If I use it for FAH only, it stays up for longer (full load on CPU + GPU) but eventually does BSOD. I'd love to OC but need to get to stability first and this board was just too finicky for my 2008 self.

Rig is in my sig. Bios P10. CPU temps are ~48C under full load for all 4 cores. GPU temp is ~58C under full load. I recall the Patriot memory I use was automatically set incorrectly (not to manufacturer's specs) in the BIOS but after playing with memory settings, I eventually reverted back to the auto settings.

I mean no more BSOD >.< Yes, I got them on Vista. Even after all driver updates, etc. Swapped out video card, still got them - never swapped out RAM though.

OK thank you for the information.

This could be a bit of bad news.. according to your RAM specs, they support XMP. XMP is an intel chipset standard not NVIDIA. Your patriot sticks were intended for P35 and x38 chipsets. I remember people talking about having problems because they bought the intel memory. They made the memory SO CONFUSING back then because it was chipset specific yet they called them BOTH "VIPER DDR3" and you really had to dig into the fine print (unless you knew they also had a color code, green for NVIDIA). Having said that, they still MIGHT be able to be tweaked to work flawlessly, it will just take some experimentation. I'm willing to bet this is your BSOD problem.
combined with the fact that these boards are memory sensitive.

Unfortunately if you want to try and find the right ones for that board, finding a set for sale is about as rare as finding a $100 bill in the street rolleyes.gif
BUT.. I have managed to get several of these from watching for them as they occasionally pop up for sale on ebay. I created a "saved search" so it emails me when someone lists them (assuming they typed the model # correctly smile.gif ). You'll need 4 of them for 8GB which does make it more challenging but at least you have ram to test with now.

This is the recommended memory for this chipset

If you don't already have this on a CD or bootable USB, get that going. This is going to be your new best friend when tweaking memory thumb.gif

TIP: Test #8 is the most sensitive on these board it seems and sometimes I will skip to test #8 and if it passes then run them all. It can save a lot of time when it isn't stable by showing errors sooner than having to wait for test #8 sequentially.

Settings from Speccy:

RAM:
Type DDR3
Size 4096 MBytes
Channels # Dual
DRAM Frequency 533.3 MHz
CAS# Latency (CL) 7 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 7 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 7 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) 20 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 27 clocks
Command Rate (CR) 2T

Voltages:
CPU CORE 1.240 V
MEMORY CONTROLLER 1.576 V
+5V 4.800 V
+3.3V 3.200 V
CPU FSB 1.320 V
VIN2 0.296 V
DRAM 1.832 V

Cores: 2133.1 MHz x 8.0 266.6 MHz 1066.6 MHz

If you need other info, let me know.

Assuming you are unlinked not synced right? Unlink memory if not.

Your ram supports 1333Mhz but I see you already have it @ 1066Mhz so the next step is to go into the memory timing section and change it to 9-9-9-24-2T and leave everything else on AUTO for now.

Disable ALL spread spectrum settings, CPUID max val, speed step, C1E enhanced halt and virtualization.
Your P0/P1 settings should be on AUTO.

Test with Memtest to see if there are any errors. If you get any errors now play with the memory voltage. I would try 1.7v, that is what they are rated for and looks like they are getting 1.5v now.

Please report back smile.gif
