790i Ultra NVIDIA chipset - Still rockin' in 2015 / 2016 / 2017.. will it ever die? - Page 53

So, i've read most of the topics related to the 16GB of Ram on this thread and looks like none of those neither any i've found on the internet helped me to get 16GB of RAM running on my Asus Striker II Extreme, i've tryed evrything so i ask if you, @Laithan were able to accomplish this on yours, as it seems you have a lot of experience on this. biggrin.gif

My CPU is the QX9770 and i have the Corsair XMS3 4X4GB kit CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 but i only was able to run 2X4GB with no problem and no need of extra seting on BIOS to run them, i've even downgraded the BIOS version from 1402 to 1301 and now 1203 on the processa i've tryed run it with clear CMOS, then at 1066/1333/1600Mhz unlinked/linked/synced FBS 1600MHz, CPU 3.60Ghz/4GHz 1.40v NB up to 1.60v Memory up to 1.80v SB up to 1.50v and nothing works it keeps on BIOS loop all the time with 4X4GB my graphics card is an Asus GTX 650Ti Boost.

i read on the EVGA forum someone saying that accomplish this flashing the ASUS BIOS to the EVGA P09 BIOS and it worked but lost a lot of features from the ASUS board, what means the ASUS is capable of 16GB of RAM obviasely it must be the ASUS BIOS "software" blocking the RAM limit, would be amazing if some one could edit the ASUS BIOS RAM LIMIT. rolleyes.gif

If anyone accomplish this please tell me how i really need it 8GB of RAM is to low for Game Dev now, Visual Studio + CryEngine Editor + Firefox is too much, i always have to close the editor to run debug on Visual Studio, if not windows keeps sayin it's runing out of memory, then freezes and closes evrthing. mad.gif

Hey bud

Did you happen to search this thread for "16GB" by any chance? Some good posts like this one http://www.overclock.net/t/1547699/790i-ultra-nvidia-chipset-still-rockin-in-2015-2016-2017-will-it-ever-die/300#post_25812137

How many PCI-e slots are populated? I think you're going to be limited to one for your GPU that's it..

The density of the ram and if double sided or not plays a role in being able to "see" all the RAM. Few types were found to work, board it VERY picky w/memory and 16GB was never official.

Yes i've seen it but it's on the XFX 790i Ultra and mine is the ASUS, i've only one PCIe slot occupied, the first one by my GTX 650 Ti Boost, yes it was never officially but it's possible, maybe only by BIOS edit.

They both have the same memory controller as that's part of the NB chip

I just got My New memory for My Asus striker II extreme..

Memory:
ADATA AX3U1333GB2G8-1G 1333G
DDR3-1333G CL:8-8-8-24
Voltage: 1.55 - 1.75

It boots to Windows and then freeze shortly after...
I ran memtest with 0 errors.
Tried All mem settings on AUTO.
Tried 1333 8-8-8-24 @1.55 & 1.6 & 1.65.
And it keeps freezing.. Should i just drop the memory or Should it work?
And how then? :-/

ahhh, legacy platforms, I'm surprised the 790i is still going, I had the 980a (The amd version) And it was amazing until the board decided to die. It ran a P2 X6 in it.

Welcome to memory tweaking on 790i Ultra biggrin.gif

Memory is by far the biggest challenge on these boards. You should keep in mind the 1.7v was STANDARD for these boards.. running any less voltage is asking for issues. I would put it to 1.7v to start and would not go lower. The high end memory on this board ran @ 2.0v

A mem test alone doesn't stress the chipset so it's only a basic test and will just let you know that "the memory is working by itself" but not much more. True stability comes from lots of tweaking. I'd recommend UNLINKING your memory and start at 1066Mhz.. check out the BIOS pics in this thread I posted (although I was using SYNC because I was lucky enough to get it to work but most people need to unlink because memory is so picky.

Sounds like you're almost there! Good luck

Run memtest for a few hours. My memory issues would take 4-8hrs of memtest to error out,

I know that you are running a X5470 and i'm running a X5450, but..
Your FSB: 1825 - My FSB: 1867
Your CPU V: 1,4075 - My CPU V: 1,3875
Your PLL V: 1,60 - My PLL V: 1,50
Your VTT V: 1,30 - My VTT V: 1,30
Your NB: 1,52 - My NB: 1,52
Your SB: 1,55 - My SB: 1,55

Shouldn't my rig be running higher V's than yours, with a higher FSB?
- Or is it just not the same? - Can i improve on theese settings?

IIRC the vpll being to low can cause memory issues too.
