But Samsung outright buying them, we are talking like over $15 B
Ya this isn't true. ATI revenue when AMD bought em was $2.2 B and they paid $5.6 B.

AMD revenue today $5.5 B so of course they worth more than ATI was.

More than likely their Graphics division was holding them up until the custom chip business came along. Now that they Sony, MS and most likely Nintendo up under their sleeve they should be fine until Zen and 3xx and 4xx.

Also we have no info on K12 ARM...Most what we know is that those are planned for servers BUT we do not know if they plan to take on tablet/phone market with some kind of derailed version of it.

Wha?

Samsung is attempting to buy AMD...

Which, would be interesting considering AMD does the vast majority of their manufacturing in house.

Where did you get Samsung is trying to buy Intel?

he forgot to put in a comma.

I ran the numbers a while ago and IIRC the semi-custom biz has already brought in over 1B. Now that they have more design wins and shrinks for the margins, who knows how big that number will get.

Hard to imagine since x86 would not be transferred. (or is there a loop-hole?)

[EDIT] Someone make a Change.org request page for the US Government to bail AMD out. wink.gif
I think Intel would re-negotiate the x86 license. And they would probably have to anyway, given the use of x86-64.

It says in the article it wont be an issue, if they write up the paperwork correctly all the patents and agreements transfer over.

I think the primitive x86 instruction set is already available to everyone, but not the instruction sets that have been added to it, such as x86-64, the various SSE versions, AVX.

because they rebrands, then they have much slower driver updates. like 1 driver updates every 5 Nvidia ones.
Sometimes I wonder, why the heck they cut budget on their graphic division? they should have cut their CPU/APU division.

Yeah i think amd might have been better off focusing on gpus, i mean those 290x were very impressive.

Intels market value is 129 billion compared to Samsungs 186 billion. Not exactly David vs Goliath there like you are making it out to be. That's the 23rd largest company (Samsung) vs the 78th largest company (Intel). And guess who isn't in the top 1500?

Meanwhile Sharp ranked 1100th.

Want another comparison?

Samsung has three times the annual profit of intel, six times the revenue, and four times the employees. They spend more on advertising than Intel makes profit.

Market value is useless if you don't do anything with it.

I wonder what nasty criminal things Samsung had to do over the years to get to that position. Are they worse than Intel in that respect?
I doubt it but perhaps!

Over here Samsung is fairly big, lots of stuff is made by them, but same with GE, GM and Ford. In South Korea Samsung is much more than a maker of products, they also do medical, construction, banking, hospitals, insurance, car parts, electronics, clothes and so on.

So whats a GTX 770 again?

Driver updates really don't matter if things work, and they do, but you're unconvinceable of that, so whatever.

Because... Well, I doubt you'd understand what AMD is trying to do if you haven't figured it out already without some reading. Go read up on HSA/hQ/hUMA as well as the concept of co-processors and SoC design. What they are doing in that regard is more important to the future of computing as a whole than pretty much anything Intel or nVidia R&D are talking about publicly. GPUs and CPUs are secondary, APUs are all that matters to them and is all that should. Everything else is simply to get by.
