BTW I'd really like to see first real game benchmarks and how 3930k stands against 4790k, it's even cheaper than 4790k now, granted they're 2nd hand.

Umm, how much performance do you need? For most people an i3 is more than enough as it is. Sounds like CPUs are going to stall in the gaming space until they start going on higher end Physics and AI. Assuming games start utilizing the CPU decently, I doubt you will need more than an i3, FX4300\6300 for a few years unless you run a decently highend GPU setup..

Because that's clearly the case here right? rolleyes.gif

Honestly? It comes down to efficiency. There are people who understand the bare metal better than I do, but the fact is both cards bring more to the table than just about any game can serve at 1080p. In real time in-game benches will it matter as much? It's dependent on the game. But it's not more than 2x better and it never has been.

The API is nearly always the limiting factor in most games once the API is properly low level this gives DEV's ability to harness much better performance / efficiency out of hardware such as CPU / ram / GPU making performance increase across the board.

The issue currently is DX11 has way to many hoops for DEV's to hop thru and way to many limitations which DX12 / Mantle unlock for DEV's to harness much better efficiency / performance.

look at current Mantle VS DX11 and you will see what I am saying Mantle unlocks massive perofrmance and the implimentation of Mantle currently is literally in its infancy and DX12 is to take over the Mantle crown and will get full proper implimentation.

I can confirm AMD did directly work with microsoft to build DX12 I already went thru all this in other threads.

ok..so back to my original question i guess..why is the 290X as fast as the TitanX if both are using the same DX12 API?
Because Titan X can only use like 1/2 of the DX12 benefits that the 290X can use all of DX12 perks / benefits while the Titan X can only use a few Nvidia lied when they said they had full DX12 support for 700 / 900 series and especially maxwell here is the proof

I see alot of NO's and emulated for Nvidia so that seems to be a no brainer AMD worked with microsoft to develop DX12 and microsoft even said that DX12 was Mantle like code so of course AMD 290x will get a huge benefit it was designed for Mantle type code from ground up.

Never? Zen is going to be SMT and if they're pushing 95w with 14nm FinFET on the higher end chips then you can bet it's going to be eight true cores in the 4-5 Ghz range. Jim Keller doesn't design a bad processor.

Yes, clearly Nvidia is hopelessly behind in DirectX12 support. rolleyes.gif

I agree there are charts everywhere back and forth but in general AMD was designed from ground up for DX12 / Mantle style code so of course this meens something as to why AMD 290X in 3dmark API testing scores nearly same or beats the Titan X if you understand what I am saying here.

At his point it's basically a driver test, not a GPU test. Is it that hard to understand? My 750Ti doubles my 290X score in the DX11 portion of the test - should we now be debating how the 750Ti is better than the 290X? This test means nothing.

Regarding the AMD cards being "designed for DX12", that may be all well and good in benchmarks. All that matters to me in the end is real world game performance. Granted I will still not likely support AMD as I have just had way too many driver related issues with them in the past.

I would welcome some more overall competition for nvidia though. Competition is always a win for consumers smile.gif

Will be great to see if this is true or just hype to try and sell you an OS.
