[Forbes] DirectX 12 Delivers: AMD, Nvidia, And Intel Hardware Tested With Awesome Improvements - Page 9

I just ran this API test out of curiosity. No DX12 but impressive boost with mantle, shame theres not that many games that use it.

going from 642552 on dx11 multi-thread to 10341110 with mantle is HUGE!

As an end-user, the difference between fully patched Vista and fully patched W7 is negligible... The real difference is if you're IT and have to manage a whole of systems. Most of the W7 code base is unaltered Vista. The only reason I upgraded from Vista to W7 was for native TRIM support.

Other than the Start Menu button on the task bar not bulging out and a few menu overlays... not really a whole lot of difference.

The biggest issues of Vista were UAC and file transfer speeds were fixed relatively early on, IMO.

not to mention the Nvidia DX12 supported features apparently Nvidia only half way support even on Titan X from my understanding leaving AMD GPU's that support Mantle / DX12 alot more benefit and features capable to run on the AMD's.

If a rumor comes out and say dx12 is made from mantle, it won't be difficult to believe at all regarding what I just saw in that link; that's a lot of support for AMD radeon.... It's obvious, everything is favoring AMD now, they must be buzzing in their offices now biggrin.gif

I live in Austin now and because of my previous job (shift supervisor at a convenience store) I interacted quite a bit with guys from AMD. According to them AMD HQ has been pretty excited for a while and now we know why.

sounds like you are getting the same info / vibe I am getting I was told this has been in the works for a very longtime and this will bring alot of benefit / advantage towards AMD if it all plays out even half as I expect it to add to it if the 390x is what it has been hinted at and such well AMD has a game changer coming that could change gaming and market as we know it add the possible samsung buying out AMD things might get very interesting very fast and in a hurry.

this is a very good read on the samsung possibly buying AMD http://www.valuewalk.com/2015/03/samsung-acquire-amd-compete-intel/ also good http://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-attempts-to-buy-amd-speculation-discussion/

Yeah, but that's because Windows 8 was cancer, and only after 8.1 chemo treatment was released did people start to migrate over normally. Before that anyone with any basic knowledge wouldn't touch it. I saw people walking away from display models in Wal-mart after checking to see whether it had 7 or 8, and how many people with in-depth knowledge on PC operating systems buy their PC's from Wally World?

... And everyone with advanced knowledge had no problem with it.

Metro was the only issue, under the hood 8.0 makes 7 look like trash. 8.1 made it a little better. 10 runs like an absolute dream for a beta, even on hardware made for XP.

Server 2012 brought us many shiny things as well, but metro has even less place on servers.

Can't say that all is forgiven with 8.1.

I get bullied into troubleshooting the PC's and network at the small business I work at, where all of the PC's except 1 run 8.1. Being a small business all of this stuff was bought piecemeal and added in as needed, and it's a quite simply a digital menagerie of identity crises, attention whores, tourettes patients and epilepsy sufferers. I use 7 on my personal PC's, out of preference, but spend more hours per day using 8.1.

8.1 is nothing but a bag of frustrations for me. In trying to simplify the user experience and reduce the technical skill required for the everyday user they removed direct control of the high level tools which made troubleshooting simpler for people who would actually take a moment to read the dialog boxes. My personal workstation used to be the most reliable but is now about to drive me insane and I'm about to have to upgrade it just so I can have simple, basic functionality, despite the fact that it's housing a Z87 board and a 4770k 16 gigs of 1866 ram I'm running out of memory and horsepower using drafting programs and editing documents. It's just silly, I hard crash on that PC several times a day due to 8.1's poor memory management. Hardware is all in 100% perfect health according to tests, and not a single BIOS setting has been touched. The only workstation that doesn't give me any problems, and actually has an uptime of over a year, is the only one with Windows 7.

My home PC has all of the same software and gets used for the same workloads as my work PC when I have to catch up on weekends. Not a single crash on my new build or my old 2500k, both Windows 7.

I don't refuse to buy Windows 8.1 as some sort claim to nerd cred or of out of peevishness. I don't buy it because it has been a constant thorn in my side since release, and there is no way I'd spend my own money just to bring yet another part of my job home with me.
