Performance scaling still in the leagues of ~1.2x from HT, when draw calls are parallelized (some game code won't necessarily be)

and adding HT costs over 1.2x as much. i5 is still cost effective way

IT ACTUALLY IS!
"AMD R9 290X As Fast As Titan X in DX12 Enabled 3DMark – 33% Faster Than GTX 980" Source
That is insane!!thinking.gif

Shouldn't Titan also get faster then? Or they mean 290x is as fast on DX12 as TitanX on DX11?

Also, are there any hints how the FX series are doing?

The benchmarks show the 290x matching the Titan X in the dx12 3dmark benchmark. For whatever reason AMD cards do much better than Nvidia in the test. However, you have to remember that it is not even remotely representative of overall card performance. The 3dmark test is just for showing draw call performance between APIs.

i dont get it, has anyone done a similar study to show how well drawcall performance translate to overall performance?

Looks like my good old 3820 still has plenty of life left in it after all then!

Might even see if I can nab a 3930k or 4930k at a good price if there's actually a noticeable benefit.

Does the benchmark make use of Drawcall batching? Or is this an unoptimized benchmark to make the difference between dx12 clearer?

Since real-world games make heavy use of batching, a representative benchmark should also imo

These are synthetic benchmarks designed to show maximum possible improvement. I would use the Mantle numbers as comparison, since they are roughly equal to the DirectX12 improvements and we already have existing DX11 vs Mantle game comparisons.
