Pretty much this. No matter how good performance we could get in theory, in the end it's up to the dev's to actually use and implement these features.. However I think DX12 will be adopted much quicker than DX10 and 11, considering Win10 is "free" and all.

I should remind everyone that these are synthetic benchmarks which should not be taken as the be-all end-all performance metric. Also please keep in mind that the race for faster, more efficient DX12 drivers is still in its infancy and very much represents a leapfrog pattern at this point. Last time we reported on the state of DX12 drivers and performance Nvidia was ahead. Today we see the roles being reversed with AMD taking the lead. However I’m more interested in testing out actual DX12 games when they come out. Which is rumored to be around the end of the year. In the meantime stay tuned as we may have our own DX12 3DMark results to present soon !

IT ACTUALLY IS!
"AMD R9 290X As Fast As Titan X in DX12 Enabled 3DMark – 33% Faster Than GTX 980" Source
That is insane!!thinking.gif

Shouldn't Titan also get faster then? Or they mean 290x is as fast on DX12 as TitanX on DX11?

Also, are there any hints how the FX series are doing?

never trust wccftech website... clickbait .

guys this is one reason why Titan X doesn't compare to well to the 290X alot of the BS Nvidia spouted about maxwell / 900 series having full DX12 support was lies alot of it is a NO or emulated for Nvidia so this meens they support what 1/2 of what DX12 brings to table

I also want to state it is fairly well known that DX12 is a Mantle clone even Micrososft admit this hince theyre term ""Mantle like code"" so of course AMD hardware designed for Mantle from ground up will perform on that code better add AMD have total support of evey thing DX12 brings to table.

I will also say AMD Mantle team helped Microsoft develop DX12 they worked together side by side designing it so of course AMD GPU's will perform better on it because they were built around it from the git go.

You make a valid point. I think what we'll see when this is all said and done is a mixed bag of better performance in some instances, and similar performance in others. Parts of the API that are commonly used will just be plain faster and noticeable, whereas other parts that are not commonly used will be faster but this won't be obvious of course. Overall I think DX12 will be a big step in the right direction (closer to the metal).

Obviously Xbox One built on AMD hardwares.

Wow, based on what we're seeing here, the 390X could turn out to be a DX12 monster if any of this turns into reality. Maybe I'll hold off on upgrading my dual 980's to dual Titan X's until we see how this plays out.

Good luck,

Myself is quite happy what I have, currently only playing 1-2 games so far. DX12 in Windows 10 will help a bit on frame drops on MMO games. FFXIV is going to be DX11 by June.
