Nope, while IGPU has improved considerably in performance lately, a cheap discreet GPU will still blow it away. Maybe League of Legends will play nicely on high settings, but more graphically intensive games will still be slow. DX12 won't change that.

But we should all wait some more months for realistic real-world benchmarks to get a better insight.

DX12's gains aren't (from my understanding) going to help in this situation as a weaker card will be the bottleneck regardless. The API is more focus on removing overhead and improving overall performance, or in the cases these days taking proper advantage of more modern cpus and multithreading thus allowing the gpu's to be the main bottleneck.

So put it this way, a i7 + 750ti on DX12 is not going to perform like a i7 + 770 on DX11. I know that's somewhat apples to oranges here but it's the best comparison I can think of. However, in more cpu bound games the DX12 setup would perform better in cpu limited scenarios. This will be far more noticeable on 1080p and below, past that the gpu is still going to be the major player regardless of API with the current set of gpu's.

It's why I don't even keep turbo on my 4790k right now since I'm at 4k on a single 290x. The i7 will not be the bottleneck here so why run with the extra heat and volts when it's currently not needed.

$100 is an awfully low threshold. You can play decently spending a little over $200 on a used 780 or 290, still both very decent cards. In the $100 range I just don't visualize a great gaming experience at 1080P with DX12. redface.gif

You can get a 7770 for $100, play most games high settings 30FPS. (Or lower the quality and get more fps obviously)

Obviously for this money you arn't going to get 60FPS max settings, but you can get a very playable experience. I think this card will also be DX12 compatible. If your just looking for something better then the IGPU, but don't want to spend to much, you can get a lot of performance for your $100

To me, a decent experience is all about 60 FPS. 30 FPS is just a no-go for me.

It's all relative to what you can tolerate and afford of course. thumb.gif

You can pick up a second hand 7870XT for around 100~

Mine's doing 100hz or 120hz vsync'd like a boss for me, still rather getting cpu limited in the games I play beyond that.

7770 can be found second hand in the 50~ range and can do 120fps in LoL or CS:GO at 1080p, but in graphical games, it's more of a 720p+low settings card for 120fps.

I'd not consider the 7770 a 100 dollar card, nor would I consider it much viable to drive visually stunning gaming at 60fps (and 1080p) regardless of API.

FSX will not be getting a DX12 version, 100%, guaranteed.

Prepar3D probably will, since it's under constant development by Lockheed, so if you haven't already, make that move from FSX.

X-Plane uses OpenGL, so this would be irrelevant for them.
