Phil Spencer has been speaking out on tweeter a lot answering users question or even revealing some interesting stuff. Today he is teasing us with the Fable being the first game with DirectX 12.

A fan asked Phil “What will be the first Xbox One game to ship on DirectX 12, Phil?” with Phil responding with “Can’t always predict all dates but could be Fable.” Do we need to say more? Hopefully they announce the release date!

Sounds like hype to me. If it's not on pc I don't really care if it's DX 12 or not. I'm ready for Crysis 4 in DX 12 glory biggrin.gif

Can we get Fable 2 on PC? And even better with DX12? Why does he always port the worst of the games first and leave out the good ones?

First DX12 game, as in a DX11 game with a DX12 wrapper (so basically no improvement), or first DX12 game with DX12 specific features? It's kind of a big difference. There were a lot of "DX10" games back when that was the new thing, and they all added just about nothing.

The big deal with Vulkan/DX12 is efficiency that will allow devs to put more detail into a scene.
I think something that will see an obvious increase in detail is foliage.

I wouldn't expect any more crysis games after the blunders they made making RYSE an exclusive XBONE and going F2P.

Will be impressed if Lionhead manage to optimize and fix the game's LPV (Light Propagation Volumes; dynamic global illumination) to the point where it can run at reasonable resolution and frame rate

Yes, but unless there's a specific "DX12" only mode, or if it's DX12 exclusive, they can't really bring that much to the table.

Assuming it will support DX11 as well, they aren't going to make separate maps for DX11 and DX12: instead, they'll just hide various things (bushes, grass, etc.) in DX11 and show them in DX12. But that means, the game needs to be fundamentally designed around the lesser API, which means they won't really be getting the most out of DX12. If it is DX12 exclusive, what DX12 features will the use, outside of just the massively reduced CPU overhead (allowing for more draw calls)? And even if it is DX12 exclusive, will the draw calls in-game really be so much higher that it would only be possible on DX12?

This is all speculation, of course.
