FX 8350 cooling on high ambient temp - Page 2

The whole issue here, is that the ambient temp is 30-33c.....

A stock cooler can't cope with that at all....

Any of the suggested coolers will give you better results, but until you pull that thing out of the sweat shop, you won't get very good temps.

Of course, you could just get it out of the sweat shop in general right now and get acceptable results with just the stock cooler, since you have no intetion of OCing...

This is what I look like working on your PC in 91oF temps...

Every time I see these threads about heat issues.... ugh. When will AMD produce lower temp cpus??

When it doesn't take 300 watts to get to get to 5GHz devil.gif

Not to mention, intel's don't exactly run cool either....

Every intel I've seen with a single slot water cooler, and a 4.6GHz overclock on it is hitting 70c under load (though they are thermally rated for it)....

Temperature is less relevant here, than the TDP being used, and the ambient temp they are placed in.

Undervolt. The FX needs about 1.26v for 4Ghz. Giving more is only producing more heat.

Good point if its in a cubby or something definitely move it out, bad idea not to let your rig breathe. But OP states ambients are currently 21-22, and hes worried with the summer coming with temps of 30+ then. If its cooking now with +10 c it will really struggle.

I misinterpreted what he was saying then...

I thought he said the ambient temp where the system would be, is going to be 30-33c!! lol

Hell, it'll get well over that where I am (NC summer can hit 100+ on a given day)....

As long as my AC is rockin at 72f, my rig is happy.....

I would say, check the TIM, and undervolt the CPU since just running stock... you'd be surprised how low you can go, and just how big of a difference it makes temp-wise....

Yeah the lowest I've gotten my 8350 to run IBT Max 50 was 1.276v I believe. Have not tried any lower cause I don't run my CPU at 4GHz normally. Like Agent Smith1984 said all the coolers you mentioned in the first post will be better than the stock cooler. I would suggest lapping both CPU and Heatsink but I am against anyone doing that with warranty available and there are risks of bending pins if not careful. The best thing you can do is find a better location for the PC. Try to keep it out in the open, if there is a aircondition vent on the floor move it closer to there. I wouldn't suggest moving it close to a window as it will probably get hotter in that area during the summer but it's a choice during the winter. Then all you can do is add as many fans the case allows to improve airflow, keep the case clean of dust and manage your wires neatly. Add cooling to the VRM/Socket also.

We had a heatwave here last year, it was 30C+ for a couple weeks in July, normally there's not much call to have air con in your house in Finland on the off chance it breaks 25c tongue.gif Rig should be fine so long as you have decent airflow and wind back on the overclocks a little. At stock certainly shouldn't be a problem.

Good point on the undervolting both thumb.gif

@Otinane

Quite a few nice ideas have been already suggested to you. I will tell you mine, as well, since for a couple of hot summers before October 2014, when I've switched to Intel, I was passing my days with my AMD FX-8350 - still having it inside its box in the closet.

As I understand you're running a University project or similar tasks for your education. This means that, most probably, you do not have time for undervolting + stress testing to stabilize your system. So, it is simple: purchase a good CPU air cooler and a good 120mm fan for the front panel of your case. When it comes to the cooler fine models have been already suggested, I personally have voted for the Noctua NH-D14. What's beautiful is that both of these products, both the fan and the CPU cooler, will last you "for ever". Independently from if you will stay on AMD or switch to Intel, indifferently from if you will undervolt or overclock at some point in the future, a good fan and a good CPU air cooler, will always be there to back you up. Like my " good ol' " Noctua NH-U14S, which kept me decent while on AMD, and it surely stands beautifully on my open-air rigs, when I install them now-a-days with my three (3) Z97 motherboards - shown in my sig rig.

Get a good fan and a good CPU air cooler, and Good Luck thumb.gif

OP. My bad I had a quick Google when I first looked and thought you had room for most air coolers, looks like you will be limited to 160mm if you use the side fan.

http://www.overclock.net/t/945153/nzxt-apollo-will-a-corsair-a70-fit

This leaves you with the Raijintek Themis, Hyper EVO, NHD14, Deepcool Assasin from whats been mentioned. There's quite a few other 160mm or below as well, but so you know if you use the side fan youre more limited. Hope its not too late. redface.gif
