My ASUS M5A99FX Pro 2.0 has never let me down, has my FX6100 @ 4.2 (and did it with ease)

MSI just cannot cope with it as its not a feature they have ever considered important enough. 4 + 1 phase is just plain garbage compared to like everything else out there. Budget Asus 970 boards have 4 + 1 supplied with superior components.

Sigh. You seem to be hung up on the old g43, g45, and g46 boards. Those are the ones that kept bursting into flames and they deserve their reputation for being really bad boards.

The GD80 is a different animal entirely and that is the point I am trying to get across. One was taken apart and the VRMs checked and they were found to be good quality units. Not the usual Nikos. They are the old style analog units similar to what the UD5 uses, while the Sabertooth uses better digital VRMs. They are also 8+2 phase units. This time last year I was running a 9590 @ 5 ghz on a GD80, on air. Now I am running an 8370 @ 4.9 ghz, on air. That can't be done on a shoddy board. I'm not trying to be a fan boy, but am trying to set the record straight.

Soon I will be pulling this GD80 and replacing it with the Sabertooth. The goal will be 5 ghz on air, but I will probably settle for 4.95 or so based on past experience.

To OP, you can't go wrong with any of these three boards, but the very highest clocks will probably come with the Sabertooth.

Really should push for a 990FX mobo for the 83** series chips though

I run a fx990a-ud5 rev 2.0.

I can push 4.8ghz on my setup on the fx-8320 but it requires A LOT of voltage so i run 4.6ghz day to day.

The board runs fairly cool at higher clock speeds until you have to push more voltage it works very well. I advise if you do try to make the push for 5.0ghz its a silicone lottery.

These chips seem to scale well with voltage until a certain point, then it requires much more voltage for even 100mhz. My threshold is 4.6ghz on my 8320 before i have to throw a lot of voltage to get the higher clocks.

Hi!
Thanks to all for the reply´s...

Im really on the fence...

I have doing some OC on my actual board, and im clearly being limited by the board... im allready at 4.7ghz but to go over this level the heatsink of the board even with a fan on top is burning!!

So i think at 1.500v i cant seem to stabelize the cpu...

My idea was to get a Ud7, then put an EK WB for the NB and vrm and connect it to my current Raijintek Triton...

I have it on a 2x120 Alphacool cooper radiator 30mm with 2 AF Corsair fans...

For me the UD7 is on of the best if not the best board for AMD...

Best Regard,

LPC

Well it seems that the UD7 is allready out of the market... UD5 R5 seems to be the new top of the line of Gigabyte...

Asus SaberTooth R2

There are many reports of thermal throttling with UD5's. Gigabyte boards have revision after revision of every AM3+ board they make which is troubling. They just can't get them right. I have a UD3 R4 and my 6300 is running at 4.8 GHz no throttling. But my 8320 at 4.7 GHz is in my Sabertooth R2. I also have a Sabertooth Gen 1 which I had no trouble running my 8320 at the max air cooling would allow.

UD5's and UD7's aren't as good overclockers as a Sabertooth 990FX R2. Been their, done that.
