FX-8370 not boosting to 4.3GHz; ram not operating at speed

Quick build specs to get out of the way (the relevant info anyway)

Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 rev. 1.0
Radeon HD7870 1GHz Edition
Scythe Mugen 2 CPU cooler, 2x fans
16GB DDR3-1866 RAM (G. Skill branded)
Crucial M.4 512GB SSD
500GB HDD (WD Black)
Corsair TX750

So I built this rig, originally, a few years ago. Right when the Phenom II X4 came out. MoBo went out, was under warranty but they didn't make it anymore, got it refunded and bought the Gigabyte model listed above. I do a little video editing so I thought I'd benefit from more CPU performance so I decided to get the quickest chip my MoBo supports, per it's CPU support list, and that's the FX-8370!

Installed without a hitch. Running beta BIOS firmware, as required for that chip.

Two problems quickly arose.

1) I can no longer run the RAM any quicker than 1333Mhz. at 1600, or at it's advertized 1866, the PC won't boot, and quickly reboots into a screen where my motherboard tells me the "overclocking configuration failed". Previously, with the Phenom, it ran at 1866 and timings listed on the packaging fine.

2) The CPU operates at 4GHz no problem. But, despite BIOS settings (confirmed) set for CoreBoost to 4.3 GHz, the fastest it goes uder any circumstances is 4.1GHz. What gives?

Any thoughts?

Cooling isn't an issue. Prime95 sees, at the hottest, a 'thermal margin' of 30C, which evidently means 30C below the maximum temp.

Thoughts?

Check to make sure your cooler is evenly tightened. Also, check to see if you have thermal paste in the socket or on your cpu pins. I ran into a similar situation yesterday and it was caused by my hyper 212 EVO being tightened to much on one corner and thermal paste got inside socket and on some of the pins screwing with my memory controller. I cleaned it up and reseated the cpu and cooler and am back to normal.

Something to look into if your still having problems. smile.gif

Everything before the rev3.0 had terrible vrm and warping issues.... You need to monitor and actively cool your vrms. second what exact model is your ram and are you using the xmp profile or setting it youself ? Try setting the frequency and first four timings yourself as well as the voltage manually.
