Gtx 780 oc not game stable ?

So I'm having a weird issue with my sli 780's. first some info about my system,
I have 2 Evga gtx 780's one is a Reference card the other an acx. They are both on water so heat is not the issue here. CPU is an i7 4790k @4.8GHz. Psu is a corsair rm1000. I've got both cards flashed with the appropriate skyn3t vbios's. I'm running the absolute latest drivers from nvidia. Ive been able to successfully run fire strike with a core clock of 1394mhz on each card at 1.3v and 7ghz on the VRAM and it was fine. I've also looped heaven for about 30minutes with an overclock of 1274mhz and 6800mhz on the VRAM. It was rock solid but as soon as I try a game it crashes after 15 minutes or so. I've tried dying light, unity, and bf4 and all of them crash. I monitor temps voltages and power consumption and everything seems to be ideal. Everything sits where I set it. I've even tried a modest overclock. My acx card sits at 1006mhz stock and the reference sits at 953 so I brought the slower card up to 1006mhz and added 220mhz to the VRAM of both cards and even with that small oc dying light still crashed after 20 minutes. What could the problem be? I've tried googling around and nothing's helped me yet. And ideas would be great thanks.
