[EurOGamer] The Legend of Zelda Wii U delayed until 2016

The highly anticipated Wii U Zelda game won't be out until next year, series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed today in a development update video.

Nintendo also noted on Twitter that the game won't be shown off at this year's E3 in June.

This may come as a surprise to some as Aonuma just said in December that the upcoming Zelda was on track for 2015. So what's the holdup? It turns out that Aonuma and company have been discovering all new gameplay possibilities as they've been designing the first fully open-world Zelda adventure.

What do you make of this news, dear readers? It sucks having to wait longer, but one can't help but wonder what sort of tricks Nintendo has up its sleeve for this pioneering entry.

I have no doubt they'll make the greatest Zelda game ever!

Ocarina of Time is still the highest rated game of all time on Metacritic!

Does anyone wonder if this will also become a Nintendo NX title alongside the Wii U?

I think it's interesting how they're calling it the first open-world Zelda game they've ever made. It's definitely the first 3D open-world Zelda they've made, so that's probably what he's referring to. I'd consider the first game open world, and it's probably my favorite open-world game ever. Hopefully they're taking some of the elements from the first game and bringing them into this game, like how you could end up in Level 7 really early, even if you weren't ready at all. I love games that don't hold your hand and punish you if you aren't careful.

I doubt it'll come out on the NX, though. Zelda's probably their biggest "hardcore" IP, and they need something to drive the Wii U's sales up.

Could just not say anything about release as to not disappoint anyone then announce when nearer completion. Perhaps?

They're probably just giving Starfox more development time since they said it would come out before Zelda.

There are plenty of entries in the Zelda series as big as The Original Zelda. Also, why do you love the original so much? I think it's quite bad as far as Zelda games go. Maybe by NES standards it was good but it holds up terribly IMO. I've been playing the entire series over this year, only 4 to go.... but the original is my least favorite.
