First post so please be gentle with me :-)

Once again another Asus board another 'USB hanging on boot' issue :-(
I've done all the usual procedures to cure the problem:

1: turn off USB legacy in the bios
2: turn off sleep options under 'usb devices'
3: remove each usb device, boot/check try next one etc

The problem remains...:-( However, as soon as I remove the USB devices (USB 2.0 and USB 3.0) my system boots immediately!

Sorry, but it's wait for a BIOS update.
X99 has some serious USB issues. Intels extreme platform is basically a beta test.

Try this:

Under Boot Options:

Set USB to "Partial Initialization".

Doing so will only initialize USB mouse and keyboard during POST. Once OS has booted up other USB devices will be active.

PS: Probably should not post your question in more than one thread

Lol, well then they haven't learnt much because I had the exactly the same issues with the P6T and the P6SE :-) ANy chance bios 1402 improves the issue?

The bios came with that defaulted and I've left it alone but thanks for the input.

I did that because I believed I had mistakenly posted in the wrong forum, apologies.

Why are you sure it's the MB? have you tried to ferret out which USB device is causing the problem? One at a time? It's either a bad external hub, an old USb device which needs a driver update, a bad USb extension causing DC leakage, or an electrical fault in one of the usb devices.

As I mentioned in the OP I checked each device one at a time with no success; however having said that my buddy and I built the same spec system and he has a TM Warthog HOTAS as well, he is getting the exact same issue even with bios 1402 so I checked it thoroughly the drivers are up to date and the voltage correct :-/

It's possible, sure. Just keep updating to the latest BIOS until everything works. I hope your board has a fix already, mine doesn't.

It's the chipset microcode, or the BIOS. Google X99 USB issues. Every X99 board has issues with USB. Mine is nasty, in that the keyboard will randomly switch off. I also have the ever so common issue that having a USB card reader plugged in with no cards will boot cycle the system.

Are we understand that the system boots fine with just the Warthog disconnected, on both yours and your buddy's system?

PS: Have you tried setting USB boot option to "fully initialized"?

Got a card reader? Try it then biggrin.gif
Just because it hasn't freaked out on you yet, doesn't mean that you magically have the only perfectly working X99 board, just that you haven't had it freak out YET.

That's how it goes with X99. Random USB devices will stop it booting, and unplugging them lets the system boot.
It's a compatibility issue with the pretty much beta USB controller that Intel is throwing in.
