2011-v3 (6Cores) or 1150 for gaming ?

Hi guys, i write this thread to ask you whick socket is best for gaming (possibly triple screen 1440p for racing , space opera games or one 3840x2160) and play newest games like GTAV at 4K, Elite Dangerous, Dying Light...

One of my freind recently bought this setup :

I7 5820K
1 GTX 970
8 GB DDR4

I asked him while he played BF4 to tell me his FPS here is the settings he played with :

Ultra settings, anti alliasing : 4x
HBAO and stuff,

Resolution Scale : 150%

FPS : 60 fps.

So his setup is pretty good actually, so as i want to change my setup i looked some benchmark comparaison on Arma 3 (I play it A LOT.)

,
The only thing which makes me distant to go 2011-v3 is DDR4. 71€ for 4GB.... at this price i can have 8GB DDR3...

And as we can see the I7 4790K is really close to the 5820K and i dont speak about price/perf ratio...

Here is my actual setup

Carbide 200R (Though about changing for a Define R5, i hope a config with SLI, WC and stuff can fit.)
I5 760 (at 3.5Ghz)
NH-U12P SE2 (Might go to WC if my PSU is powerfull enough with the specs you will tell me ^^)
Powercolor HD6850 (1GB of Vram at stock due to temps. 70°C in Arma 3 High setting for approx 2Hours.)
8GB Of Kingston HyperX Fury 1600Mhz
Corsair CS750M 80+ Gold PSU.

At least with 4790K i can keep my rams ^^

So here we go guys, i hope you can answer my questions ^^ About the budget. None fixed for now, No limit as i prefer invest in high quality parts and i'll put the bucks for them.

Feel free to ask anything you want in the comments smile.gif

Here is what i thought about : http://www.ldlc.com/b-f11edbca7fbb383b.html Any ideas, suggestions are welcomed.

If gaming is all you're going to be doing, go with the 1150 setup. The additional cores in 2011-v3 CPU's wont be as beneficial for gaming as the higher clock speeds in the 1150 CPU's.

Arma 3 will be better with more frequency/ipc

And a 970 is the worst choice for 1440 and higher on console ports

well checking other benchmark the game tends to go better with more IPC/Frequency.those benchmark should be early from release

Get a 4790k as you planned.as for the gpu depends what would you play.for arma3 it will be fine

in general i play dirt 3, BF4, Arma 3, Dying light ( which makes my actual setup crazy). CS:GO, Assetto corsa, i'll play GTA V and elite dangerous (hopefully in surround setup) with HOTAS *-*

If CS GO is similar to other older source games the higher clockspeed over core count, dont think vram will be a problem

Battlefield 4 goes better with more cores on dx11, If you go with AMD you can use mantle

If you will use downsampling or triple screen(1080) the 970 will reach 3.5GB vram and you will get stuttering but on a single 1080 you could be a bit below 3

Elite da gerous will be fine with 1920x1080 and the 970

The heatsink might be able to do 4.5 without too high temperature

Nope, i'll stay Intel, power consumtion and temps reasons.

And what if i go with a 980. Which i'll probably put in SLI later ?

i was talking about gpus.and. a 980 costs the same as a 290 cfx bwing 30% or 40% slower at 1440/1080 and a single 290x could match a 980 at 5670x1080/4k

Now the 980 costs more or less 200usd less than what could be a r9 390x that is about 40%-50 faster than a 980 and it could be better due to HBM on high resolutions.

Hmm okay, but i used a powersuply calculator (by MSI) and put

I7 4790K, 2 R9 290X, 8 fans, 1 CD/DVD Combo, 2xDDR3 sticks, 2 HDDs and it tells me 692 Watts. So yeah my PSU can handle it but probably no WC..

In comparaison with 2 980s. it says 552 Watts, which will probably let me WC my build. In fact the most important thing it's the power bill ^^
