I'm building a G3258 system for my sister but want to leave open the option of upgrading to an i5-4690k and getting a decent overclock in future.

Obviously I need a board that will allow me to boot with the G3258 out of the box, so that I can update the BIOS for full compatibility with it. I believe all Z97 boards should allow me to do this and some boards, like the Asus Z87-M Plus https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z87MPLUS/overview/ allow you to update the BIOS without any CPU needing to be installed.

I'd prefer to get a full ATX board and Z97 is probably the only choice if I want to be able to overclock and also provides M.2/MSATA in case that becomes needed in future but I'm willing to consider uATX boards if it will make a significant saving.

I know more than 4-stage VRM is recommended for getting a decent overclock out of the i5-4690k but the budget probably won't cover such a board. Although the Z87-M Plus is only 4-stage, it seems from reviews and user reports that it nonetheless overclocks pretty well, so that might be the best compromise. It means sacrificing M.2/MSATA but that can be added in with a PCI-E card, although probably at more total cost than getting a Z97 board and if a 3-slot GPU was installed that would occupy the only remaining PCI-E slot at the bottom. I can get it for about £50, which is pretty good.

Maybe the Asrock H97 Pro 4 https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h97pro4 might be OK and is full ATX so provides more slots but I'm not sure if it will POST with the G3258 or overclock the i5-4690k as well as the Z87-M Plus At £70, it's also £20 more than the Z87-M Plus and the one review on PartPicker says the USB3 drivers tend to cause BSOD on booting Windows 8.1, which is obviously unacceptable if true and my sister's not very PC-literate so I need to get her something reliable.

So yeah, I'm looking for suggestions, ideally around £60 but I can stretch that a bit.
