Which monitor is the most similar to a 27'' imac?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am looking for the most similar monitor to the monitor of a 27'' imac (latest 2012 and later ah-ips models 2560×1440).
I like it because of its vibrant colors and glossy display, it has by far the most amazing monitor imho.

My priorities are
1. Color vibrancy.
2. Glossy (again for vibrancy)
3. I would prefer a monitor that is reliable, from a known company (Samsung, HP etc), no dead pixels and other issues of faulty korean monitors.

Thanks,
I hope menacingTuba will see this post too smile.gif
btw, The monitors I already found:
1. Crossover 2755amg (cons: non reliable, blacks are not good)
2. Crossover 2720MDP (cons: non reliable, some models are not vibrant, some are only vibrant as a samsung s27d850t)
3.Samaung s27d850t (cons: non glossy, will not offer the color pop I am looking for).
4. HP 27xi (cons: the resolution is not enough 1080p).
5. Lenovo pro2840m (cons: TN panel.., I am not sure but I think the vibrancy won't suffice).

How about Apple's own 27" Cinema Display?

I have been using it with my rig for for a handful of years now, and it has been great. The price point is a bit steep, but I got a good deal back then.

It is more than I am willing to pay, btw, imho the colors of the cinema display are less vibrant than the colors of the 27'' imac.

Well, its really LG Panels (used in yamakasi catleaps) vs samsungs take a look at the Q270, multi is $299 right now still. Theres also ASUS PB278Q but I believe its same PLS as samsungs own monitor.

If you want to go all out, check the ROG Swift (but its TN) too....

Dell u2715h

Same panel, same almost everything.

u2711 WAS the previous gen 27" Cinema displays. IIRC the u2713hm is the newer ones with a new board, thus even more latency.

I have heard good things about the u2715h so far - and it looks pretty in panel and physically and has lower latency than u2713hm.
However you need to be cautious around them, I know with the u2713hm at least there are problems with the lack of proper voltage suppression - thus some people just have their monitors go into a permanent 'sleep' mode. (Which is highly suspected from some component on the board itself being damaged from a voltage spike that wasn't suppressed).

I have simply disabled screen saver / monitor sleep. Turn off monitor manually when I go to sleep etc. and before I turn off my computer and make sure the monitor is unplugged when there are power outages as to avoid surges killing it.

All that being said, only reason I got my Dell was because it was ~$300 cheaper than the next 27" 1400p IPS panel. I would have rather gone ASUS to avoid these issues.

Thanks, the Q270 multi is not compatible with macs and I want to connect it to a mac mini.

The dell 2715h is not glossy.

Any more suggestions please?

It should run you around 15 to 20 dollars for the adapter if anything.

Works fine with MB pro

It looks like a good option but it has compatibilty issues with most macs, especially with those with onboard graphics, which macbook pro do you have? any chance you saw a success story with a mac mini 2014?

The newer iMacs use Plasma Deposition Coating/PDC. The Crossover AMG and 27QW series use the same coating, are PWM free (Side Effects) and have proper brightness controls (example) while most of the other multi-input Korean monitors with the same coating do not. The Iiyama XB2779QS (available in Europe), Monoprice Glass Pro and Planar PXL2790MW also use PDC and are quite good, but have a high minimum brightness of 160cdm/2 while the Monoprice Zero G is an abysmal piece of garbage for numerous reasons.

PDC is a bit more vibrant and clear than glossy coatings, but black and dark content does look a bit washed out as well. Left PDC vs Glossy

Crossover makes the best glossy and PDC monitors currently while the 'name brand' versions from iiyama and Planar have very a high minimum brightness and do not offer better performance.

@MenacingTubaThanks MenacingTuba smile.gif
I will probably buy a crossover.

1. Will this icc color profile you posted intended for a 2755 make a single input 2735 and/or a single input qw (dvi-only) as vibrant as the multi input variants?

2755amg icc profile:
http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/monitor-reviews-discussion/14389-crossover-2755amg-review-glass-2560x1440-ah-ips-2.html#post1127160

2. Is the 27qw dp the most vibrant among all amg/qw variants?
