How much of a performance boost will doing Crossfire do?

I have had an MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III (3gb, OC Edition) card for a few years. I can run Skyrim heavily modded (200 mods including graphical mods like ENB) at ultra settings, at around 40-50fps outdoors and max fps inside cities, buildings, or dungeons.

If I get a second Radeon HD 7950 and do Crossfire with it on my x79 Sabertooth board, what kind of increase in performance could I possibly see?
Would it be enough to put me at 60fps constantly?

Also, I have an Intel Core i7 3930k overclocked to 4.5ghz

EDIT: Or would it be better to just buy a GTX 970?

i play skyrim in 4K with 2 290s at stock. even with one 290, that game can be played pretty maxed out but mine is not modded. wait for the 300 series.

if you can't wait, then i recommend the 290X with 8GB for a modded Skyrim, it may not use 5, 6, 7 or 8 GB but it may exceed 4GB.

Thanks for the replies, but I've had a total change of mind.

I am likely going to get a Radeon R9 295x2, which should be able to do 4k gaming without crossfire smile.gif

My bad. I know that. I meant I wouldn't need to do crossfire with an additional card.
Because there's no way I'd do x2 of the RL 295x2 smile.gif

Haha thanks smile.gif

At first I won't have a 4k monitor so I'll be seeing the benefit mostly in the form of FPS increases I assume.

Whats the resolution?
If you have 1440 or higher get a r9 290x cf or a r9 390x
