I wish that were true here in the U.S.

Survival of the fittest. If a given company cant make money in one large market (like, for example, US) it will be replaced by a company whose business model is suitable.

Geo-locking reminds me of some videos I can't see on youtube because it's disabled by the owner. Like there're some advertising that I should not see biggrin.gif Because maybe i'd want but can't find it and create a false supply/demand over here in Europe smile.gif

No, geo-locking is used to create artificial monopolies on the way people can access content, so that businesses can charge what they like instead of charging what they need to in order to be competitive.
There is absolutely no danger of them not being able to make a profit.

Just to clear things up, it's not actually lobbying that causes the issue of politicians being bought and paid for. It's a awful campaign contribution system that enables the extreme amount of lobbying in the U.S.

I'm not sure how political campaigns in the EU work but if they're funded by the private sector lobbying being illegal is largely irrelavent.

Quick, someone get the memo to nintendo! Apparently they missed the previous one in 2006 when it became standard. This will probably do something I hope

Political campaigns in the EU is financed by the political party.

The political party itself gets the funds from public finances in part, and the rest from private donations (physical persons or companies). Each donator is limited to 7500 Euro/year and the totality of the available funds are under control of a court bailiff. The list of donations/donators is made accessible to the citizens at any time (that's in France, it might be a bit different for the other countries in the EU but always heavily regulated).

Lobbying or campaign funding with large sums or services is simply not possible in the EU. Sarkozy borrowed a private jet from one of his buddies once to go on vacation, he nearly had a revolution on his hands tongue.gif

Not saying that it is a better system than the US, but it does explain why corporations get sued by the EU when they go too far (ie: SOPA equivalent got squashed at the EU parliament with 99% against and ~1% abstentions, the latter were absent for the vote wink.gif , web sites blocking being overturned by the EU, Google getting warned regarding privacy, MS fined a couple of hundred million of Euros for ignoring warnings etc... or why this geo-blocking non sense is gonna get banned in the EU )

Sounds like a reasonable measure to prevent extreme corruption. I actually think its funny considering that originally the U.S. left England to get away from the very crap they have today yet whatever is left of the commonwealth (bar Canada because the U.S. has their hand so far up our backside we can taste nail polish) has progressed to the point where they belong to what's essentially a anti-corperate monarchy collalition (EU). Too bad that joke comes at the expense of a lot of people who deserve better.
