Will my fx-8350@4.8Ghz bottleneck 2xr9 290 in cf?

Thread Starter
The title basically says it all. I'll probably oc both gpu's also as soon as I replace my PSU, which is currently 650w Seasonic (gold rated), for which I have a feeling that is barely providing enough power for my system as it is now. When I tried to oc my gpu I started getting black screens so I just stopped and I'm planning my last upgrade for this pc which will be another asus directcu II 290 gpu along with PSU upgrade.

I'm planning to buy an Evga supernova 1000 g1. Should I go with g1 or g2 version of this PSU or should I buy a different PSU? I'm pretty confident that 1000w gold rated psu will suffice in that setup. I'll also slightly redo my water-cooling loop at this occasion. Thanks for replies!

It depends on the game. Old single thread games, maybe. Modern multi thread games, nope.

In short no there wont be any discernable bottleneck, as far as the power supply goes some will say they have gotten away with 750-850 while others might tell you to get a 1500 I however just went with 1000w gold because I wanted a good amount of wiggle room just in case. and I have found it to be a solid choice. Also in a lot of cases factory overclocked gpu's don't oc as well as non oc cards, should you choose to do this make sure your bumping up the core and vram voltages as well I've found its usually the latter that's the wall when overclocking and running in cf.

there's always going to be a situation where you're cpu is a bottleneck, even if you had a i7 5960X. as for the psu, the EVGA 1050GS.

I'm running precisely what you are proposing except under water...but no I find the cpu handles it with ease...I haven't found a game yet that shows bottleneck for either gpus or cpu...however I run at 1080p so that could be why...amd needs to release that next driver already though smile.gif....if I remember correctly the g2 is a seasonic rebrand...which comes highly recommended...my 8320 needs 1.512 - 1.524 for full stability and the 290s I have run 1050 and 1350 without a voltage or power increase...I have a 1200 watt psu because I will be.pushing limits soon on these babys smile.gif

I'd be weary of those 290 direct cu's over anything else. Putting two of those close together could cook a steak....
You definitely need 850w+ PSU.
As far as bottlenecking.... Will it? Of course it will.... BUT, you still get good scaling for the most part, especially on 1440p+ resolution.

As the others have said, depends on game and resolution.

No, you just need a bigger power supply. I just picked up a 4790k and had my fx-8350 clocked at 4.9ghz just two week ago and it performed just fine with my overclocked 7970's.

Good Luck
