Discussion I had with a friend.

Thread Starter
Basically a friend of mine upgraded to a 4790k from a i5 4460 and sold me the i5.
I am very glad he did so xD
However he was boasting that he got 400 fps on cs go.
I told him that if you have 60 hz refresh rate its kinda pointless .
So he told me his HDTV had 250 hz Q_Q
What the hell do i tell him , I am floored by his stupidity
Or is it me that is in the wrong here , somehow?
Cheers.

first off all there is a difference as the raw refresh of his tv is at most 60Hz and while they advertise 250Hz thats something completely different and will actually give you lag in games if you use it. and getting 400fps in go seems weird considering the default fps cap is 300 tongue.gif but its possible.

*edit* look up the facts and educate him, that is the best way. Knowledge is power.

He is the type of person that builds a rig mostly for e peen.
Like "Look at me I have 400fps in cs go "
While at the same time not wanting to oc his 970 and 4790k and is not interested on the enthusiast stuff like benchmarking and posting 3k mark score and things of that nature.
I don't get him honestly.

maybe you should reconsider your whole friendship? tongue.gif

also cs:go is really not demanding at all, ask him if he can max a demanding game and see what he says.

The TV only displays 60 frames from the PC, then it calculates 3 frames in between. So only 1/4th of the visual feedback is actually 100% accurate.

For his TV to correctly guess what the next 3 frames should look like, it needs to delay the signal so it can see what the next real frame will be. At that point, it can go back and draw the last 3 frames.

It's delay. It also causes a heck of a lot of artifacts.

If you're going to game on a TV....especially in a game like CS...then he'd want to turn off all of his TV's post processing features.

You can always burst his bubble and inform him than an i3 performs just as well as his i7 in CS tongue.gif

There are a few people on this planet who do things just for bragging rights. Nothing you say can change them as that will make their whole existence meaningless . My advice, stoke his e-peen fire and cook your own meal on it. That's the best way to deal with people like these.

Tell him, he can get 800 FPS if he can buy a Titan X. Then offer to buy his 970 at half the market price. At the end of day, both of you are happy in your own worlds. You, just a little bit wiser. thumb.gif

Edit - And you are absolutely correct. All HDTVs in market use 60Hz as input and output. The expensive HDTVs then process it, add few more frames in between and display it again at 60 Hz. This makes fast actions like football matches more enjoyable. So if you insert 3 frames in between, it becomes 240Hz from 60 Hz. But it still remains 60 Hz display output as the screen is still 60 Hz. Its just a marketing gimmick as making a true 240Hz panel will cost thousands more. For PC gaming, its in fact deleterious as it introduces input lag due to all processing.

You need to B slap your're friend and tell him to stop trolling because its obvi he is. If the screen is 60hz then you can only EVER SEE 60 fps. Thats why i /faceplam at people who have 980 SLI for a 1080p 60hz screen. Its just a fat waste of money.

Not if they want 4xSSAA tongue.gif

TBH, especially with Nvidia, you can have 100fps easily, but run into a Physx heavy scenario and you'll see your FPS drop 20-30 FPS. It won't break your 60fps baseline though so you'll still have a fluid experience. Having overhead does help!

Sounds like a terribly optimized game.

My leading point stands though. Try Tomb Raider with TressFX and 2-4xSSAA on anything less.
