Which cable to use?

Which cable will give me better quality when using Astro a50s. Should i use the optical or the audio jack cable. I have the asus Impact 7 motherboard and am using the sound card that comes with that if it makes any difference.

If it were me, then I'd compare both to see which one I personally like better.

Using the analog audio cable will use your motherboards onboard DAC. Using an optical cable will bypass your onboard sound and use the DAC built into the Astros. TwoCables gave solid advice. Try 'em both.

... and the DAC is pretty much what determines the quality of your audio. You see, a DAC (Digital to Audio Converter) takes the digital signal and turns it into an analog signal for our listening pleasure. If it weren't for the DAC, then all we'd hear is something extremely unintelligible; it would just be a bunch of digital noise. However, how (or perhaps how well) this conversion is done is what determines how pleasing the audio quality is (or isn't).

 

So, if you use both, then you will be comparing the DAC on your motherboard for your onboard audio to the DAC in the wireless transmitter. I don't have enough knowledge to make any predictions (not even if I were to know which motherboard you have), so the best advice that I can give is still to compare them both to see which one you like better. After all, you're the one who will be enjoying the audio, not me. :)

 

Anyway, @CJRhoades, I thank you very sincerely for teaching us that using an optical cable bypasses the onboard audio because it enabled me to make a much better post than my first one. I have to confess that I wasn't quite sure because I haven't discussed this stuff in years. :/ So yeah, you've been a major help here!
