Asus p8z68 with Intel 2600k need to increase RAM replace or extend is the question, please advice!

Hi

my setting right now:
ASUS P8Z68-v PRO/GEN3
Intel i7 2600K
RAM = 8GB CORSAIR CL9 XMS PC3-12800 KIT (meaning 1600Mhz 2 x 4GB RAM)

My question is should i extend by the same type to get 12 GB RAM (because i have only 3 slots available because of the CPU cooler + fan) in total or replace those with one of the with following DDR3 2400Mhz:
1.G.Skill Tridents X 2 x 8 GB
2. Corsair Vengeance Pro 2 x 8 GB
3. team xtreem 2 x 8 GB

Will those 2400Mhz run on my motherboard?
Will the performance increase really the double price worth?

Thanks in advance!
Alex

SB can only run 2133MHz but that shouldn't stop you from getting a faster kit, like 2666 or 2800 if you can find it at a reasonable price. Skylake uses DDR3 as well as DD4 so if you ever want to upgrade you'll have the memory.

Hi
thanks for the fast reply.

What is skylake?

My motherboard specs says it can only run DDR3 at max 2200Mhz see here http://www.asus.com/de/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/specifications/

Is the performance increase fromm 1600 to 2400 appreciable?

Oh just realized on slot i taken by thew size if my CPU cooler + fan.

So I have only 3 slot available. doh.gif

http://www.overclock.net/t/1487162/an-independent-study-does-the-speed-of-ram-directly-affect-fps-during-high-cpu-overhead-scenarios it'll increase your min fps, not avg fps
skylake is the next core i5 cpu (the 5xxx gen).

Wow fps incerasing nice!

Sorry maybe it is my bad english...
I do not get you reference to skylake because i have a i7 and my motherboard specs saying I can only use ddr3?

So you mean my motherboard and i7 can use ddr4 with 2400?

thanks

2133Mhz is plenty for gaming. Just go for a new 16gb kit.
