3570k and my gtx 960
My cards shipping as we speak. Going from a Evga GTS 250 to a Evga 960 GTX is going to be really really fun smile.gif Going to miss my 250, lasted me way more than I ever tought it would.

I'll actually be able to play CS:GO without dropping to 40 fps though. Finally.

Hello guys! it's nice to type on overclock.net once again! I talked a bit on this forums about configuring a manual voltage and multiplier for my 4670k , and i always got a lot of useful infos on the intel haswell thread. I paste months about configuring the bios, and generally overclocking at the best i could have done my 750 ti asus oc i always had since december 2014. I am now tryng to upgrade to a 960 asus turbo 2 gb oc version (i had a recover nvidia quadro 4200 , im giving it off for 250euro + the 960 im talking about) . I am here mainly to ask, might be a good upgrade between a 750 ti asus oc to a 960 turbo asus oc ? they are both 2 gb, but im sure the technology of the 960 might be way far, i saw some firestrike scores here, made with processors slower to my 4670k , and they raised over 7k score, it seem very good.
(for sure it's not the 960 stock setting i understand), with my 750 ti i never went over 5000 score if not by boosting my processor over 4200 frequency (unusable setting for daily or even for occasional gaming if for a intel stock cooling, i mostly use 38).
so yes questions are about if for a good upgrade, and, in case, do you think i can use (also if for a while) my 750 ti connected with the 960 to apply phisyx management from the 750 ti for full to try to enhance temporary a bit the performance? (plan clearly if i will get the 960 will be to sell the 750 and maybe in a secondary time to SLI a 960 with my one, but its too early to ask about it)
i would like so much to enjoy reading the full thread if i will have my 960 to play safe a bit with the card like i always did on this forums with my 750 ti and my 650.

I'd save a little more and get the 960 4gb or a 970.

Yeah, me too, with the 450€ price im selling off a nvidia quadro k4200 i can afford a basic 980 i guess, but, thing is i had not get anybody interested in a nvidia quadro k4200 as much as this guy, which im talking about with from days already, and he does offer 250 euro+ the nvidia 960 asus turbo 2 gb oc. Honestly i do not do heavy graphics stuff with my computer, my 750 asus oc did his job already way enough. The thing on getting an upgrade (even if not that fat upgraded) plus 250 euros for a computing card i would estimate in terms of graphics performance very slightly higher to my 750 ti oced, would be a gain, since i didn't pay it and i have 2 of them to catch out.
for sure a 960 4 gb or a 970 are better to a 960 2 gb, anyways it's yet hard to find out people interested in a quadro.
if i would only think about a strong vga upgrade i would try to wait to had sell both nvidia quadro and look for a 980 ti.
but anyways , i have a z87-g45 msi gaming mobo. a 4670k with stock cooler and 8 gb ddr 1333 (4x2) kingston cl9, i browsed the web and i think my system can optimize at all for maximum with a 960 4 gb, so i ask again, maybe you deathangel also know because you had a 750 ti, are u benefiting from that upg? also, i would like to play with standard oc and bios mod with the card a bit, i loved the period when i did it on my 750ti.

You will see a significant improvement over a 750ti. I recently tested my GTX 960 against an old Radeon HD 5850 (close to the 750ti in performance) and the 960 is almost twice as fast in modern titles. While the 750ti will be a little better in modern titles than the 5850 there is no way it is twice as quick. I would say realistically the 960 will probably give about a 50% - 70% increase in performance over the 750ti depending on the title. I run all my games on my GTX 960 2gb @1080p at max or near max settings at ~60fps but admittedly I do not play things like GTA5 or Battlefield etc. None the less, in synthetic metrics the GTX 960 is a very significant upgrade over the GTX 750ti, it can also be set up in SLI which a 750/ti can not. Quaddro cards are very hard to move as they appeal to a very specific market so I would say, so long as you don't need it, go for the deal. While you could probably get more it will take a lot of time and you also run the risk of the card becoming completely redundant while you wait.

A GTX 960 when overclocked can perform as well if not slightly better than a stock GTX 770/GTX 680. The 770 is a rebranded 680 with higher clocks and some refinements. While I love the GTX 750/ti for what it accomplished at it's time of release it was never even in the same league as a GTX 680.

As for the 2gb vs 4gb argument it is largely irrelevant if you do not plan to game over 1080p. While some will argue that some games use more vRAM than 2gb even at 1080p the fact is, you will not visually during gameplay notice a difference between say high and ultra texture settings at 1080p. It comes down to pixel density, beyond a certain point the display is incapable of showing more than a certain amount of detail within it's pixel density. Now I have seen people cite Shadows of Mordor as being a prime example of how the GTX 960 2gb is inadequate but that is a stupid argument in my book. SoM has terribly optimized textures below the high setting, most of which look like they were upscaled from low and blurred. This is an issue with that particular game not proof that 2gb is inadequate. If SoM managed its texture resources properly and used decent quality lower resolution textures no one would notice the difference between the medium and high settings at 1080p. It bugs me that so many reviews claimed SoM looked ugly on sub 3gb GPUs and lay the blame on insufficient vRAM, the fault there lies with the developers of the game. I could easily upscale 256x256 textures to 4k and throw some blurring in there and still choke 2gb of vRAM with hideous textures. Ultimately texture resolution does not = texture quality.

Sorry about the rant but I did feel it was pertinent to your question tongue.gif

Yeah infact i think giving out a quadro would be so efficient also in the terms i got it for free and 250 euro and videocard upgrade by an useless thing (for me) sound awesome (i also hope ill sell the other one i have , maybe with 250+450 i can plan also a cpu upgrade then). Anyways yes, that's what i thought , and most of what i already read , i saw also by some benchmarks i used to see here on the thread.
I also lke to play with cards a lot, i love to try them all initially with afterburner then with some flash bios, at the proper time ill start informing myself about how would i flash as good the bios of this card.
And yes, 2 gb may be a limit for games like battlefield , or the most recent and performance-expensive games. Luckily, i mainly use pc for internet. movies , playing a single video game (starcraft 2 legacy of the void, im about close to the progaming scene on it atm) and the game draws with difficult benefit from more to 2 gb of Vram, i do not really use any performance expensive games or so, and i do not edit, i really like to bench and overclock and mod for fun, but daily my computer should not run heavy intensive stuffs (because there is not a game with that requirements which i would like to play).

Never even in the same league of a gtx 680!?!?!?!?!?!?
LOL
i really Hoped it was even far close to a 670 or a 660 in bench =) i have serious difficulties at burn the 660 stock firestrike with my 750 ti firestrike with cpu hitting 95-97°C and a core memory clock which you are gonna prey they won't crash for the 3 minutes of benchmark LELEL, i don't think i ever reached 660 stock with my 750 ti ultra bios mod oc setting, i got 5082 once on fireastrike by pure luck, i am pretty sure 660 would do more to 5200 at stock, Jason posted his 660 stock a while months ago i think to remember. p.s. jason good bios mod guy =)
thanks for the answer =)
Hehe the point of the "not in the same league" comment was to illustrate that the GTX 960 is vastly superior as it can compete with the 680 across the board. In fact my Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming beats the 680 in most titles at it's default factory overclock.

If overclocking is a passion of yours you will LOVE the GTX 960, it has a ton of thermal headroom and is well known for some massive overclocks. On mine, over and above the factory overclocks, I get +152 on the core and +505 on memory. That nets me 1586 boost on the core and 8010 on the memory and that is without a modded vBIOS or increasing the voltage in any way.
