Subbed! I had an even earlier VAIO (circa. 2001/2002), was my first higher end computer. Upgraded to the max over the years, it lasted until 2009. Parted it out, but still have the P4 it shipped with. The case was like a greenhouse for heat management....tongue.gif

This should be an interesting mod!
What kind of liquid cooling are you thinking of putting in?
The Vaio is actually a pretty nice clean case, I think a blue led strip under the plastic Vaio logo might be cool, with a switch at the back so you can turn it off as well! biggrin.gif

I will do a custom loop in this case. Right now I'm thinking a two bay resevoir and push pull fans on the biggest rad I can fit in the top half of the case.

My challenge so far is finding space to fit a power supply. If I cut out the hard drive try I have a space that's 5.25 x 4 x 6.75 which should be enough room. I've seen micro atx sizes online but aren't that powerful, What size as small as possible while still having good output?

With my Powermac G4 mod the space was very limited so I ended up using a tiny ITX power supply, which does the job fine for a dual core cpu. It is only 300w though so I can't really upgrade the video card or anything which is annoying.

Maybe you could make a separate box for the supply and run a custom made sleeved cable to the computer, would be a lot of work though.
It's strange that the supply doesn't slot right in, most cases (even branded ones like sony, hp) have the same or very similair slots for the supply.
Good luck, I'm sure you can work around it! thumb.gif

Completed part list

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rbxkBm

I passed on skylake. I though out my performance goal and realized I should try and get some better value parts, overall I think its a great start. I'm going to start this weekend with mounting the power supply and a few case bits.

I cut my front panel and only saved the audio/mic ports. I need to find a cheap usb 3.0 front panel and fit it to the case.

AND THE LIQUID COOLING.

so for right now I'm looking for a short term cooling solution. I am going to attempt to fit the factory cooler. When I cant do that I will put a all in one system. I'm gonna take some time to design a custom loop where the top half of the case is just a big lane for rads

I bought a vio back in 2005 i think it was. That computer had a great mobo and a great power supply ( stuff pre mades usually skimp on ). Vaio back in day was quality no doubt, i kept the case till 2012. I belive it had a intel P4 with hyper threading, that thing ran HOT.

ill keep an eye out for the RA820G. Maybe post on reddit ? someone might have one laying around

YUP! mine came with a P4 540j clocked @ 3.2GHz and some foxxcon mobo that maxed out at 2gb.. thumb.gif I really love their case design from that era, IMO its still better looking than a lot of the pre mades today. Wheres a good place to post on reddit? I'm putting an APB out for this damn thing!
