USB polling precision - Page 28

Immediate BSOD? Have you tried apply and reboot instead of instant apply? My 780 Ti goes to a black screen with blinking cursor if I try instant apply or anything else that restarts the graphics driver, like CRU. Even reinstalling graphics driver is a PITA that requires me to memorize the keyboard combination to restart my computer from the Windows menu because of this.

Has anyone here tested polling on the new 1607 Windows 10? I've heard a few reports saying it messed up polling stability or whatever.
I know most systems have their default rear-IO USB2 ports on IRQ 16 but mine has the GPU primary slot on it as well and I cannot change it within Windows.

The front-IO is IRQ 23 going through the MB lower-area connector.

Any discernible difference? Or does it not matter? I'm just curious.

Had 1000hz stable (50-100 us variance at most), updated and I get +2000us variances, this is ridiculous.

Very well written article and interesting information +rep. Is this more for older CPU's?
Just remotely connected to my rig, started two video files playing, two audio files playing, and started Cinebench R15 to max out the CPU as a test. DPC latency didn't exceed 60us. (I think that covers most of the things that would affect dpc lat)

I guess the part of the guide that described turning off everything and removing all usb devices besides mouse (ie. gimp the computer so it's *almost* useless) threw me off a bit; I can't see why this would be a beneficial thing to do (cut down a fully working rig to a partially working rig to gain 1ms response on your mouse), but then I cannot reproduce the mouse lag issue on my system.

There's an alternative to IRQ named "MSI". With MSI, each device can have its own interrupt. For some reason, the NVIDIA drivers don't try to use MSI by default but you can force this manually. That way, you can make it so the USB2 controller gets the IRQ to itself.

Here's a forum post that explains it:

There's also a paragraph describing this in the first post of this thread here.

This does not work with the USB2 controller device. It can only use IRQ and refuses to use MSI, and that's why you have to make the change for the graphics card device.

There could be issues with this as NVIDIA might have a reason why MSI is not default. You should be on the lookout for problems like strange stutter or whatever. That said, things always worked fine for the cards I had. I also noticed that this MSI stuff is the default on Linux.

EDIT: Could use a delete function but I cannot find it.

wow.. So the most stable W10 would be 1511?

Is there any benefit for setting other things to use MSI? I set only my nvidia card to do it a while ago because I felt it made it the slightest amount more snappy (AMD does this by default!) Also note that you shouldn't set certain sound cards to MSI as they will stop functioning until you revert it. I only have my mouse plugged into a USB slot so I don't think I even have a reason to make anymore changes. My keyboard is in ps/2 and audio devices are in the soundcard.. it's pretty clean on my rear panel 8)

Simply not true. It depends on the drivers. If they support MSI, then it'll work.

I have no issues with either of mine in MSI-Mode.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX and Creative X-Fi

Even works together with VoiceMeeter Banana.
