List of unlocked lga 2011 (ES) xeons

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Im new here. The goal of this tread would be to collect a list of lga 2011 xeons with unlocked multipliers.
Most xeons are locked, but there are some exceptions, e.g. the E5-1650 and also some ES chips such as discussed already here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1496856/the-mystery-behind-unlocked-xeons and here http://www.overclock.net/t/1413140/unlocked-es-xeons.

Since now there are quite a lot of ES chips on ebay, i thought it could be interesting to make a list of stepping codes of those who can go beyond their factory settings. (where im personally especially interested in 46xx and 26xx chips that work in dual or quad cpu configs).

Kind of lonely thread here. Any way i found 1 more a 1680 v2, and if you look at the screenshot, there is also written 2690 v2, ( http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1785227&page=2)
Could they be the same? If i understood correctly they criple/distroy the extra QPI lanes on the 16xx series vs the 26xx and 46xx series, but maybe they only say so.
Another thing i came across some days ago is that there are some supermicro boards that overclock dual cpu configs
which kind of raises the expectation that there will be some unlocked 26xx chips. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?286416-Supermicro-X9DAX-iF-Almost-perfection!

CPU-Z does show E5-2690V2, but that is the full chip (the E5-1680V2) is a neutered version of that chip and the 1680V2 is so rare that I'm guessing that CPU-Z doesn't have a separate entry for it and uses 2690V2 because it's the closest one to it.

Intel does shut down the QPI links, unlocks the chip and chops off two cores, but at least leaves the full 25MB of the L3 cache. At the moment it's the only production CPU that's currently unlocked that based on something other than the low core count (LCC) die (it's a medium core count, or MCC die). It's also the only unlocked production CPU with more than 20MB of L3 cache.

According to HWINFO64, the QPI links are all disabled (all three that are present on the die). Putting my E5-2687W in back to back shows the links on the E5-2687W to be active (where the 1680V2 showed them inactive). So there is zero hope for the 1680V2 to work in a dual configuration.frown.gif

Cutting the 2 cores could have technical sense (if those didn't pass the test during the binning process), but i guess they really had to destroy the qpi lanes. Yes it was a bit wishful thinking that they would leave the qpi lanes as they were and just "rename the chip". But yes since they are so rare it could have take a while for people to find out... but unfortunately... on the other hand at least they didnt cut the cache. Thanks for responding.

I really dont understand that there are quite a few dual socket motherboards that can overclock, but that besides rumors, i never saw any unlocked xeons. I would be even happy just to set use the full turbo all the time.
some people seem to be able to do this as some benchmark results suggest, but i dont know if they have special chips or not ( http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?dir=desc&page=1&q=2680&sort=multicore_score ) those E5 2680s on 3600GHz with all cores how??

(One side question, i only have a E5 1650 running in a z9pe-D16 strange combo, strange story. Any way i can get it to run at 3.8 3.9 GHz (one time i tried 4.1 but im scared to push it to hard), but the max freq under full load seems to depend on the test. It seems that when the Power usage for the cpu reported in Open hardware monitor can only exceeds 130W for about 10 seconds and then it runs slower clockspeeds again(temps are 66C on air) . How is that going for your Xeon 1680? is this 130W limit my fantasy a mobothing, another mobosetting, or what do you think?)
