doing great has you can see from the benchmarks its not as fast as the sm951 but its faster than regular SSD not sure if I should try the pro driver since it seems to be different setup than the SM951 and the pro.

you could always test it out and if its not great go back to the original driver you were using.
I found a great deal for a SM951 NVMe 512Gb and I was wondering if I should buy it or not. The price difference between the SM951 NVMe and the 950 PRO is over $100 and since they perform almost the same I was wondering if buying an OEM device would be much of a hassle.

Is there anywhere I can find drivers or firmware updates?

I'll be using the SM951 for playing games and light work (excel, internet surfing, etc), is it worth it or should I just get the 850 PRO? My mobo is the Gigabyte Z170 Gamming 5, so there is M2 support without the need of PCI adaptors.
In my opinion the SM951 is well worth the extra money. I dont have the NVMe version, mine is AHCI.

Here are my SM951 vs 950 benchmarks.

SM951

950

/Edit/ I am also running on the Gigabyte Z170 Gaming GT. (One model up) I dont recall if yours has the multiple m.2. slots. The first slot i believe is faster however it comes at the cost of some sata ports... make sure you read your manual to find the best place.

Yes mine are 850 Evo's though the speed difference is pretty minor between the two... isn't the primary difference between the EVO and PRO the life/warranty?

Here is a comparison of the SM951 AHCI/NVMe & 850 PRO: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-sm951-nvme-versus-ahci-sata,4137.html

My motherboard has 2 m2 slots and I'm aware it disables some sata ports, but that's not a problem at all. My main concern is the lack of consumer support for the 951, there is no Samsung Magician support, no website for firmware or drivers downloads. Could that became a problem down the line?

Looking at the numbers and charts is hard to deny the 951 is a big improvement in benchmarks, but what about in real life scenarios? Win boot time, game loading and opening simple applications like excel... that sort of "normal" use.

These are valid concerns. There isn't really any support though I've found the community has good resources which have overcome most issues. I was a very early adopter and purchased the drive when they were first available, outside of configuration and getting it to install/boot I haven't really had any problems.

Boot time is pretty close to instant. I run my operating system off the SM951 and will usually keep my most active game on the SM951. Since I only have the 256 version I manage my space by routing my profile folders to one of my 950's and keep all my other games on the other 950.

Windows installs in about 4 minutes from a 3.0 flash drive. Things I install do so at such a speed that I tend to giggle... I'm not a giggler so this is a pretty big selling point for me.

But as you mentioned, there is no support. If thats important to you you might want to check out the HyperX Predator m.2

/edit/ Upon thinking further I do have one issue with the Gigabyte Z170 board. Right now when I boot the windows boot loader is pretty delayed (like 20 seconds) I think this had something to do with my initial install and it hasnt bothered me enough to reinstall and see if that fixes the issue. (I'm read that it will). I also ran this on a Asus Maximus Impact Z97 Daughter board and it loaded instantly. After bios locates the boot info the boot self is instant. This is the delay between bios load and boot handoff that has the delay.

Hello guys, I have seen that the ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming ITX board has a 32GB/s M.2 slot on the back...

Since there is zero airflow on the back of a mobo, isn't that going to cause overheating issues?

Hello, how are you?
I am looking to buy a m.2 SSD.
The 951 nvme is way cheaper here than the 950 pro.
My board will be an asrock z170 gaming itx.
I will run Windows 10.
Any advantages on buying the 950 pro such as drivers or performance?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers!
