All very odd. Purchased a new Samsung SM951 256GB AHCI M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 card which arrived a few days ago. Stuck it into the M.2 slot on a Asus x99 Deluxe board and fired up into the BIOS. Card was read out of the box and I was one happy bunny. I then checked on my current BIOS version (1305) and just as all good boys followed the advice on RAMCITY and upgraded the boards BIOS to the latest version 1702. Rebooted and the new M.2 drive had disappeared. After a good 5 hours of fiddling with the BIOS settings/resetting the BIOS x times and a good bit of g research discovered this page - spotted the 1602 compatibility note next to my board and hence installed the X99-DELUXE BIOS 1601... still no luck.

Can anyone tell me what the correct settings for this board should be? Most say just load up the default settings... but so far no good.

Many thanks.

I have the ASUS X99-A and had the same issue with BIOS version 1702. I had to go back 1402. Also I'm certain you should only need to change one setting on your board, or at least that's been my experience with our various customers with ASUS X99 boards. Here's the notes from our M.2 compatibility list. This is the only thing I had to change to be able to boot both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 from a usb drive created using Rufus.

Set your CSM settings to 'UEFI Driver first' in the PCIe-EX storage section before you'll be able to successfully install Windows on either the XP941 or SM951. To get here, press F7 for advanced configuration, then navigate to the 'Boot' submenu, then down to CSM (Compatibility Support Module) and press Enter. Then, navigate to 'Boot from PCI-E / PCI Expansion Devices' and select 'UEFI Driver First' from the menu. (default selection is 'Legacy Only'). Then navigate to the Exit menu, select 'Save Changes and Reset'.

Its good. I see that past ~2 minutes of seq writes (@1.52GB/s = over 190GB written lol) performance will drop to about 70MB/s for a few seconds and then it comes back. So as long as you aren't doing retarded big transfers you should always see fast speeds when transferring from an equally as fast volume.

Temps max at about 82C in my system, but there is not gfx card over it. It is in the Gen 3.0 x4 M.2 slot of my ASRock Z97 Extreme6 with no airflow directed at it, when I have a 120mm fan pointed at it sitting on the PSU, or say a fan on the side panel of a case, it maxes at just ~61C.

With Windows 8.1 I'm able to boot off of it in ~6-7 seconds powered off to desktop with Ultra fast boot enabled in my UEFI. I had to update to the latest UEFI -> P2.10.

So, for normal use in our systems it is sweet.

I should have a review up next week for the rest of what I think about it, but most of what I think is pretty much in line with the other reviews out there.

Yeah it seems the 512GB versions hit 80-90c, the 256GB versions run about 70-80c and the 128GB ones hit about 60-65c, Makes sense since the 128GB versions aren't writing at full speeds.
