Hii guys I really want this in my system. Well at least one of them. My system is 3930k running on Asus P9X79 Deluxe motherboard. I am planning on getting the pcie 4x and was wondering if I can hardware raid it to boot? Take note of the picture above. I realize they reviewer/owner of the pic is doing software raid.

Also would I be getting at least 70% of the M.2 speeds. Otherwise I plan on just spending 100 dollars for a SSD and raid 0 my boot disk.

My other alternative would be getting an intel 750 ssd pcie.

you can not boot off of a software RAID.

Like that commercial I feel like I could search till my fingers fall off trying to find the fastest SSD for my system/neads. AHCI vs. NVME, SATA vs. PCI, sequential reads vs. 4k random reads for gaming, M-key vs. B-key vs. B & M key edge connectors, BIOS vs. UEFI.

Sorry rant over. So trying to figure out if this is compatible for me. The Asus Maximus Vii Hero isn't listed on the list of motherboards in the OP, but I found a post on Asus's forums of someone using the XP941 as a boot device on the hero VII. Beyond this list in this thread how do you know if the drive will work as a boot device for your motherboard? Also can these be used as boot devices in Windows 7?

Since the XP941 can be used as a boot drive, I see no reason why the SM951 can not be with your motherboard. And yes, you can install Windows 7 64-bit.

so whos selling the nvme 951's, i thought they weren't gonna be rereleased until june-july?
Well I ended up getting the AHCI SM951 from ramcity. It's amazing and is plugged n play on my M7F mobile. It's on my Asus m2 to pcie card. On the 3rd slot which runs at pcie 2.0 16x I was getting 1.6GB/sec. In the second slot I was getting 2.2GB/sec At Pcie 3.0 8x speed. my GTX980 was always in the first slot. Third slot doesn't Limit the first slots lane speed but the second one does.

Got mine for 333AUD from ramcity with one day shipping. The guy at ram city said that Samsung recalled the nvme one due to firmware issues

Because PCIe 2.0 x4 =/= PCIe 3.0 x4.

Just because you have enough lanes to cover the total bandwidth needed, it doesn't mean your device can divide up among the lanes. It can only use up to 4 lanes for bandwidth...Also, PCIe 2.0 has a lot more overhead than PCIe 3.0.
