The 4K (single small file) read speed is lower than what this SSD is capable of, but that is probably caused by the CPU power saving options being enabled in the UEFI/BIOS. Drive IO does not load the CPU much at all, so the CPU cores stay at their idle speed and have transitioned into a higher C State (C6) and are barely operating. That adds latency which causes reduced IO speed for some types of IO.

Also, an OS drive will have slightly reduced benchmark results compared to a non-OS drive, since an OS drive is still serving the needs of the PC.

A 256GB AHCI SM951 should have a total Anvil score between 8,000 and 9,000, so yours is fine.

thanks, Should I disable power saving if it is on?

Hi, maybe it is not the section for my request but i couldn't find any help anywhere.. So recently i built an intel NUC5I7 with SM951 256GB AHCI, kingston hyperx 16GB 1866 CL11, seagate sshd 1TB and windows 10 pro 64bit ..my concern is that i read a lot of forums and with the exact same built reported read speeds for sm951 from 1600-1800mb/s while my speeds are up to 1340mb/s...so i'm thinking if i miss something or if i have a defected drive..is there anyone with similar setup to confirm or not these speeds?

Yep. It's been discussed in this thread already. It's only recognized after a full shutdown, and then powerup.
It's either Intel NVMe driver that's causing this, or one of the Windows updates, I haven't gotten around to figuring that out yet. Tbh I'm waiting for the driver that comes with SM950 Pro to try it out and see if that fixes the problem maybe. If not, I'll look into other things.

Hi everone.

I experience a very weird behavior with my 512GB SM951 (not NVMe) drive after failed upgrade from Win7 to Win10. The booting / bios initialization is very, very slow.
- I tried to make a clean install on this drive of win10, but it took me almost 4 hours just to get to the point where you choose the drive to put win on.
- If I try to clean install Win7, then the drive is not visible in the installation window, but in BIOS.

Weeks before the drive was performing well. Untill this Win10 fail.

Reset BIOS, reflash BIOS did not help.

At the moment I switched to Kingston Hyper X SHPM2280P2/240G and it runs well.

Does any one have an idea how to fix the issue with my SM951 512GB (NGFF)?

A friend of mine had this issue. He was using the Intel driver. He installed the Samsung driver from the Hp website as he couldn't roll back to the Microsoft driver and the problem went away. So I think it's with the Intel drivers.

I'm having no issue on the Microsoft driver. Hopefully Samsung 950s will have a decent driver.

Can you ask your friend on what website he got the driver from? Having to interrupt boot by turning off the PC at BIOS every time windows update want to restart is frustrating

actually I checked ASUS site and new BIOS just came out today

ASUS Maximus VIII HERO BIOS version 1001
1. Update Intel® ME version to 1168
2. Enhanced memory overclocking range to DDR4 3866(OC)
3. Improved compatibility with Samsung M.2 SSDs

installing now. hoping the restart issue is fixed

I will have a look now. Careful of that BIOS. There's reports that adaptive voltage isnt working.

Here is the driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=wk_149537_1&swEnvOid=4059

Some people said that trim was not working. When I tried Trim check on his PC it was working fine, plus he says his issue has gone.

Im using microsoft myself so can only answer to what he tells me. I know trim def works though because I tested that myself on his PC.
