Opinions on 1440p vs 1080p - Page 28

What do you think about the Dell U2515H as a low budget solution?

It's only around 250 € for 1440p @ 25 inches.

I played a 50" at 3 feet and it was fine after I got adjusted.
How much were you moving your head around for that view distance.
I find sitting 18" away from a 24" screen too close, but my desk won't allow for much further away

If you're only on fast paced twitch shooters, then you may care about 60fps 'minimums' more than others. But for those who care about gaming in general, its not an issue.

Secondly, for those that insist on 60fps minimums.. then poor folks.. they will miss out on a lot of popular titles where that cant currently be done (ie, Witcher 3, FC4, Crysis 3, etc), even on 1080p. Are you implying they should go to 1280x1024.. to meet their 60fps minimums?

Anyway, I'm happy with the witcher 3 on 1440p, most settings on ultra and not getting 60fps minimums.. as well as many others I'm sure.

Do you have one or two GTX970?

I have the u2515h and its a lovely screen, great colours and the adjustability is good (but you can buy the stand and fit to any VESA 100 monitor).
I don't currently have a graphics card powerful enough for full 1440p even on the desktop but the small increase from 22" at 1680x1050 to 25" at 2048x1152 is very noticeable and games look alot nicer. When I get a new graphics card (probs 970) I'll weigh in abit more.

It is only a 60Hz screen but for my underpowered card and my PS3 it works great (usign a soundbar).

He is quite correct. As it applies to the majority of gamers. It may not apply to me and many others who prefer higher res, but 1080p is still the mainstream of the masses.

To be honest, I currently prefer 1080p right now. It's just that 1440p needs more power, and that some interfaces seem to be challenging to read at 1440p (like icons, while keeping them within reasonable size).
1440p does look beautiful though, whether it's on my new 4k Smart TV (my dad didn't let me fix the old one, I've done it before frown.gif ), or my friend's 27" Shimian. It's just that not everything is built with higher resolutions in mind.
RAM? This Rams all the Competition.

This thread should have died by now.
1440p is only useful for gsync users or people with expensive rigs (multiple video cards). The framerate is too big for games to be playable.
I can overclock my 1080p Benq monitor to run at 2560x1440 (up to 115hz) via the monitor hardware scaler. FPS hit seems slightly different than AMD VSR at same settings, but both make the framerate in call of duty black ops 2 drop to below competitive playable levels (playable but not enough to play at a high level). 1920x1080 with 4x FSAA and FXAA gives higher framerate and keeps the fps at 100 fps at all times, while 2560x1440@100hz (monitor scaling) or 2560x1440@100hz (amd VSR) drops the FPS to the 80's at places which is below the level I want--and this is with NO FXAA and NO antialiasing set in the game. (I'm using vsync+blur reduction so keeping 100hz/100 fps at all times is essential for me).

But boy does the game look good. Just FPS hit is too high.

Older games like black ops 1 and COD4 work much better.
