Would something like this work for me? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812423181&cm_re=4_pin_cpu-_-12-423-181-_-Product

I cannot envision a scenario where you'd have to have that.
There's either a defect in the casting of your connector, which you would reconcile with EVGA, or there's some other problem at hand..

So there would be no problem overclocking with only the 4-pin atx plugged into the motherboard?

There's the motherboard end of the PSU cable

There should be a second CPU power cable in the box. Try that one; I had this issue with this PSU and on close examination of the two CPU cables (which, according to the manual and the box are identical) they were not the same; the pattern of rounded and square connectors was different. One worked, and one didn't.

Both cables are exactly the same, I just checked.

This is extremely odd....... Do you have another motherboard you could test the 8 pin ATX cables on? It is possible the connectors are mis-cast, but would be highly unusual.

I do not have another one nope. The only other mobo in the house is far too old. For now the mobo is working fine with just the 4 pin plugged in. It would just be nice to have an 8 pin plugged in, especially as it is not a cheap PSU.
Yes, the 4 pin will power the mobo fine, but really should utilize all 8 pins for overclocking. *Very* strange.

I'm not questioning your intelligence by any means, but just to verify that these are the cables your PSU came with:

Well I myself have questioned my intelligence. I felt kind of stupid. There was nothing wrong with the 4+4 pin cpu cable that came with the psu. Some of the pins on it had rounded off edges, but they still fit in the square holes in the motherboard!
