First off, System Specs

i7 2600k @5ghz
GTX 970 @ 1550mhz ( with latest drivers ) ( watercooled, not hitting its temp limit )
16gig ram
all installed on SSD's
Win 7

So I've been noticing with GTA, I for the life of me can't get a solid 60 fps no matter the settings.
Everything on 'normal', roughly 60fps dipping into the 30's
Everything on "very high' roughly 60 fps dipping into the 30's.

It just seems very odd to me that lowering my settings does not seem to affect performance.

even dropping the resolution from my native 1440, to 1080 barely has any effect on FPS stability, and was wondering if anyone else is getting under expected performance or has any ideas on what I can try to do to improve fps stability.

Ideally, I'd like a solid 60fps, even if that means everything is on low, but that seems a bit unachievable.
I'm not sure if its just the game, something wrong on my end, or what is going on. Some people seem to be able to run the game better than others, with lower spec'd rigs, while others like me with pretty decent systems can barely hit a steady 60.
same driver also crashes at random

Ah, GTX 970. The card with 3.5G of Vram with brutal (1/7 of speed) slow-down when it hit the 0.5G of ram, connected by 32bit wide joke, called memory bus? Probably that could be the culprit there.

Lol, that severe though?

According to people's experience is that the FPS does not drop, there is a stutter when it's above 3.5

It may be even above 60 fps but hang ups are real and visual, but not as much fps depended.

for the most part it is that severe, it's like hitting the vram limit where the performance just tanks and will keep tanking until settings are adjusted to keep it below that limit. check to see if you're using more than 3.5gb of Vram, use Afterburner or whatever you use to monitor you usage.

Looks like the 8G R9 290X could be the solution to these Vram problems and limits. After all, the card is also way more powerfull that GTX 970... it only cost more and need serious cooling.

Thread Starter
Looks like it was just a game issue, after the latest patches, i'm running solid 60s with a mix of high, very high settings.
