Looking for advice on a budget gaming PC

Hello! This seemed like the most appropriate place to post this, but you guys might disagree, so I apologize if it's misplaced.

I'm looking to build a gaming PC for not much more than $400. Ideally it would be $400 or less, but I'm sitting at $425 now, and I think I can swing it. I already have a case, disc drive, power supply, and OS, so they don't need to be included in the purchase list.

I have a wish list saved on Newegg, but for some reason I couldn't share it even after making it public, so I'll just list everything.

Video Card - $164.99

Motherboard - $49.99

Processor - $99.99

RAM - $58.99

HDD - $51.99

$425.95

Would this make a decent PC for the price? Would you suggest replacing any of these with something of comparable price? Is something here not compatible with something else on the list? Did I miss a crucial component?

Thanks!

"Spend a little more and get dual channel memory (2 sticks of identical RAM)"

It was actually less for 2 4gb sticks, but my motherboard only has 2 ram slot, and though I might upgrade later. Does RAM perform better as dual channel rather than a single stick? And do you think I would even need to upgrade from 8gb, given that the budget nature of the other components probably couldn't handle anything that needed more than that? Also, I'll look into the vidoe card you suggested. Thanks!

"Forgive my asking please, but what is the brand and model of your PSU?"

I honestly don't know. It's in storage right now. I didn't know the brand was a significant concern. Would you mind suggesting a quality PSU that would serve my needs (power output/good price)? Thank you!

The quality of a PSU can really only be judged based on exactly what model it is, not by what brand it is.

Anyway, if it turns out to be an el cheapo type of PSU, then how much do you think you can spend on the PSU?

Not sure, really. I'm already over budget. How much would I need to spend? Maybe I could go with one 4gb stick of ram at first and get the other one later. That'll save me around $30 that could go toward a PSU. I've seen some PSU's for around that price, but those are probably the ones you're warning me against, yes?

Usually. :/

Perhaps it's best we wait to see what you have. The PSUs that are safe to use would be over $50, but not more than $70.
