If there's one thing I dislike about BioWare, it is their catering to SJWs.

I agree. I've always rolled my eyes when I read articles of Bioware talking about how they were trying to keep their games "diversified" for the sake of diversity.
Nothing kills an organic narrative faster in my opinion than heavy handed approaches of social commentary, aka "Look at us, we're diversifying. See, see we are diverse!"

As long as I play a character that is fleshed out and acts like a human would in the situations they are in, I couldn't care less what gender/ethnicity they are.

Anyway, I'm hungry for more information on ME:A. Though for some reason, I feel like the game will be pushed back again further into 2017. Hopefully not, but I'm not holding my breath on the current Spring 2017 release.

I agree with the above two posts. I understand that they feel compelled to cater to them though, since it makes up a very large part of their audience lol.

This. Don't forget that a lot of devs are pressured into this though. Many of them may not have done it otherwise.

Anyway whatever happened to shepard? Did he die... did he survive... ? I was one of the people who was pretty unhappy with their vague ending. I mean come on. Its game 3. The least you could have done was say for sure, what happened to the main character of the entire series. I realize that they want to milk it for all its worth, but they could have continued doing that anyway. Plus I don't see what is so wrong with him living through yet another ordeal. Its kind of what he does. The vicious aliens lost to shepard... so what. They were bound to mess with the wrong guy sooner or later. He doesn't have to die or become an unknown for the sake of the story.

Because it's an RPG franchise with several different outcomes for the third game (and for Shepard), it's understandable that they don't want to specify. Maybe we'll find out in Andromeda?
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Although numerous endings are not canon already, such as Shepard dying at the end of Mass Effect 2, and the ending of Mass Effect 3 in which the entire galaxy is destroyed. Pretty sure the "Synthesis" ending of 3 isn't canon either.

I'm hoping they won't even reference a thing about ME3 (outside of races and such) Judging by the little e3 video they showed it looks like ME:A starts off just before ME3 starts hence normal looking earth and everyone is prepping for the invasion.

Edit: https://twitter.com/macwalterslives/status/744581874492669952 At the end of the day this is all moot speculation till N7 day.

On this I'll have to disagree. Some people like closure on the stories they enjoy. Imagine if they left The Lord of the Rings open ended. Did frodo actually manage to destroy the ring? Did he survive? Who knows? Its just pure milking, Bungie did the same thing when they screwed up halo. (although im sure they receive orders from on high) Someone needs to educate them on how to properly do continuity. They need only study a bit of C.S Lewis or any of the other greats to learn this. There is no reason we couldn't know what happened to shepard, and at the same time be ready and waiting to play another Mass effect game. Knowing what happened at the end and having a definitive ending, wouldn't have lost them a single mass effect fan. With all the greats, you know what happened. All they've succeeded in doing is watering it all down into some sort of larger story.

Which for this story and the way it played out, wasn't necessary and did it a disservice. Hence the uproar about the ending, which I'm sure you remember. It wouldn't have bothered me if they did it right, but stretched it out to 6 or 10 games. But it was obvious that it was all over, and coming to a head.

Your examples aren't of role-playing games though. What happened to your Shepard is not the same as what happened to everyone else's. The uproar about the ending wasn't just because they didn't clarify on what happened to Shepard; the original game (before Extended Cut) had so many issues regarding the ending.

Andromeda will not answer those. I suspect Andromeda starts off with a bunch of races including humans leaving for Andromeda during or just before the reaper war. In case the reapers did win, they'd want a way for the species to survive. So the story here would be completely cut off from at least a big part of ME3.

ME3 is as it is. You're gonna have to find your answers within those three games, not Andromeda.

Also, look at this post of mine from quite a while ago... The latest trailer is only confirming more of it...

From all that we've seen, I've concluded that the story will be pretty much completely cut off from the prior Mass Effect games, particularly the ending, so I doubt you'd have to worry about it.

I suspect that when the alliance knew the reapers were coming, Shepard (along with Anderson and Hackett probably) assumed the worst, which is that the reapers would wipe every race out within the Milky Way galaxy. The council didn't listen, so, they took it into their own hands to create an N7 team for the survival of the human species, and approached the other species seeing if anyone else would want to join the cause. The team would consist of at least two individuals of the most 'important' species if they agreed to tag along, probably more for genetic diversity. The goal for them would be simply to let those species survive within the Andromeda galaxy, which is the closest to our own.

Based on the trailer with Femshep 'signing off', it sounds as if that's a message to a Recon team being sent to the Andromeda Galaxy with no way back and I suspect that's where the game starts, and then follows with everyone going into some sort of cryo freeze, to be woken up again when arriving at Andromeda. Lack of resources would be the likely explanation for not being able to travel back to the milky way, although it wouldn't be recommended anyway in case the reapers won. It's therefore quite likely that this game plays off way later than the events of ME1-3.

This would give them a clean slate for the story, while still acknowledging the existence of the prior games, enabling more exploration etc.
