Got a Wasabi-Mango 4k 42" Korean IPS monitor: What tests to run? - Page 122

Freesync works the same whether it is a 43" or a 23" so the panel does not affect it's performance. The UHD420, UHD430 and UHD55 all use the same MStar scalar board which all support freesync in the same manner.

Pay particular attention to the final question.

I understand the size of the panel is insignificant to Freesync.  I haven't experienced FreeSync yet so I wouldn't know the difference between it off and on.  Maybe I should rephrase my question. How's freesync on a 4K panel with 60Hz. Smooth? To put things in perspective i have tried Gsync with 144Hz in a show room.  Similar effect?

I was planning to get this to accompany my ASUS PB287Q 4K monitor. I ended up picking up a couple ASUS MQ279Q 27inch 1440P freesync monitors for eyefinity instead.

@bonami2, isn't the UHD400 a PVA panel? So not even the same as the 42, 43, 49 inch Wasabi Mango's as they are all IPS panels.

@bonami2, I asked because I wasn't sure and as far as I can tell there are no flickering issues with the backlight in the IPS panels from LG that Wasabi Mango uses.

I am not a fan of the Samsung PVA panels in general, so I am glad I got the IPS (LG) panel instead.

Bonami2, this thread is for the UHD420 screen - which uses an IPS panel with an LED backlight and does not suffer from any flicker.

Your 40" screen is completely different - it's using a PVA panel, and probably uses CCFL backlighting if you're seeing flicker. This is a common problem with many large screens - I assume CCFL backlighting is cheaper than LED backlighting for the manufacturer.
