Can I sign out of chrome without losing all my stuff?

Thread Starter
So for a couple years I was resistant to signing into chrome with my google account. I hate the idea of other people having my data / history. A couple days ago I did sync chrome so that I could use google play. I guess that it designated all of the older stuff on the browser as done by me, and now if I log out of chrome it gives me a blank-slate browser. Any solution? I might be forced to copy chrome from my laptop, which was never logged into.

Any help is appreciated,

Aidan

1. as far as I know you don't need to be signed in your G-Account on Chrome to use Google services on the web.
2. there's an option in Chrome to never store your history (called incognito mode)
3. With google play you mean google web store, where you can find apps for Chrome?
4 "I guess that it designated all of the older stuff on the browser as done by me, and now if I log out of chrome it gives me a blank-slate browser." not really sure what you are trying to say here.. can you explain it better please?

tbh using logging in with your G account in Chrome it syncs bookmarks, preferences etc, in the cloud, so good if you have more than one machine (including phone)
imho the price that I pay for Google Services (I give them my data) is more than fair for the quality and versatility of these services. they are not interested in your particular data, but in the so called "big data". they dont care if john smith is going on vacation next month, but how many people are going to vacation in (ie) august. you are just part of a big pool.

use internet for legal stuff (obvs don't buy drugs online, that's just stupid) and you'll be fine biggrin.gif

I mean that I used Chrome for years without loging in (I have lots of history; settings, etc.), and now when I log out it logs me in as 'user 1' with none of my data, settings, etc.

Just export your bookmarks and import them after you sign off.

Personally I am logged in 24/7 as I move between my work laptop, personal laptop, and desktop. As well as my Phone. So syncing is a must for me.

Your Chrome gets reset back to default after logging out, as you moved everything into your personal account by signing in.

Though I got to say the data collected by google doesn't even compare to the data collected by your cell phone company.

Before trying to log out.. , Make sure you have backup the folder %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\"User Data" and ALL its sub folder.. In-order to prevent from any loss.
