Hello!

Sorry for bumping this thread but I only have 1 question regarding boot times on this SSD since I have the same MB as you and will be getting the Samsung 950 PRO (which should have significantly faster boot times), so my question is are the boot times the same as x99 and z97 boards? I'm talking about windows boot which is after POST. Thanks in advance smile.gif

I don't know. I don't have any X99 or Z97 boards.

Can you even install 950 Pro into RIVE? I mean the only I've seen is M.2 and I don't know if you can plug the M.2 SSD directly in any of the PCIe slots. RIVE doesn't have M.2. thumb.gif

Yes but with a M.2 to PCIE adapter smile.gif

When I formatted it with Rufus, I chose GPT for UEFI and formatted in NTFS. During boot up, it says something about not being able to load NTFS drivers so I went back and formatted in FAT32 but that doesn't work either. It straight won't boot from the USB at all.

Can anyone who has installed any version of windows to an intel ssd 750 PCIe please chime in with the type of GPU they have / used for the install? Im thinking the issue im having on my new RIVbe is that i cant disable CSM in the bios bc i then get the message that my "VGA card does not have a UEFI bios" (r7 240 , and i tried a R9 270x and a old Radeon 6750, all the same issue when i try to disable CSM in the bios).

Ive tried installing win 7 64 and win 8.1 64, i either get the message from the win installer GUI saying that "win can not install to this drive, make sure it is enabled in the bios" (yes, im loading the latest drivers, directly from the intel site via a usb stick, loading the drivers makes no difference, and under win 8.1 installer the 400gb drive is already visible).

Ive tried USB install media, and sata DVD install media (both on both win7 and win 8.1) the result is the same.

one unusal thing though, is when i select win 8.1 UEFI in my bios boot order (when using it via my SATA dvd drive) i get the invalid boot disk, insert a valid boot disk and press enter POST message. (i think all of this is bc my GPU doesnt support UEFI , but earlier Cyclops' GTX 780 supposedly doesnt have a UEFI bios either and he was able to get win installed to a intel ssd 750 PCIE

any ideas or can anyone chime in on what GPUs they have used to successfully install win 7/8/10 to a intel 750 SSD on ASUS X79 (im on a RIVbe)

thanks!

I used 780 Ti's and still do. I don't know why you're getting that error. Then again Black edition isn't the same as the basic RIVE.

Deafboy, I see you have a intel ssd 750 and a RIVbe, can you please let me know what settings in BIOS you set to enable you to install windows to your Intel 750 PCIe ssd?

Im using the windows media creator to create a windows 10 USB install stick, but when i disable CSM in the RIVbe BIOS and then boot with ONLY the win10 USB and the intel 750 SSD connected, i get a message right after POST saying I need to go into the BIOS and enable CSM to boot from this device.

If i enable CSM , but set each device to UEFI ONLY, then right after POST the bios screen loads (and if i then navigate to the section where you can manually choose your boot device, and select "UEFI - PATRIOT 16GB" (my win10 usb stick), and press enter, the screen flashes and returns back to the BIOS screen (as if its trying to load / boot from the UEFI usb stick but it fails).

Thanks alot.

unless i can get this running if looks like i might have to return this brand new RIVbe and getting some X79 board that is confirmed bootable with the SSD 750 pcie frown.gif
