There are done confusing comments in this thread. Some saying they will get an apu chip but then using a gpu as well, which is just wasting money. Others saying they will get an 880k chip because they like onboard gfx... the 880k doesn't have an igpu. Maybe a motherboard gp, maybe....

"Increasing the igpu doesn't increase performance because memory limited" What? This is just silly, performance increases substantially along with clock speed of the gpu.

Lastly, the new A10s are not pointless, they are quite a leap in stock clock rate and likely to clock higher than 7870k.

Getting a dGpu to run in an Apu system is a perfectly reasonable option.

If the gpu ever goes down or for any reason you need it for something else you still have a good working system.

If you get an Athlon - a chip that didn't bin high enough to run its iGpu - then you should expect lower reliability/performance from its Cpu.

If you stop trying to prove that Amd didn't write lousy DirectX drivers and challenge the greens to meet you in OGL benchmarks instead you will get enough extra performance with the iGpu enabled to top your dGpu on its own every time.

And if you actually use software that makes use of the new DX12 facilities you will be challenging where FX can't.

AMD APUs only makes sense without a discrete GPU, for example in small form factor builds without space for a GPU. Maybe with dual Graphics, but in my oppinion its better to go with a CPU like 860k & and a discrete GPU. The A10-7870K is around 135€ here, and a R7 250 around 75€. I think you can get better performance with a CPU + GPU combo for the same price.

Exactly.

I got an APU because I wanted to keep costs down initially whilst still having things playable. When I got done spare cash, I upgraded to an R9 380 and turned off the igpu.

In between that I tried dual graphics but it just didn't want to work well, to the point either games were not viewable or stuttered like hell. I will say that some of those titles were dx9 which isn't officially supported though!

If HSA actually worked with games, that would be freaking awesome...but it doesn't so it is a completely moot point.

I'm actually hoping the multi-GPU thing will make this sort of stupid CF and SLI thing obsolete:

I've almost thought it. I've often read that Dual Graphics can cause problems.
And in my case, it is so that i mainly want to play older games like Legacy Of Kain, Unreal Tournament 2004, Lord of the Rings and those things. Most of them run very well on the iGPU of my Pentium G1820, but Games like Thief: Deadly Shadows stutters a little bit. So i think, for my requirememts is a GPU like a R9 380 just overkill, a small System with a APU should be fine even for hardware-side harder Games like Unreal Tournamemt 3 and Mortal Kombat X.

AMD finally realized there was no point in increasing the GPU frequency any further as it is already >266MHz higher than the memory bandwidth can utilize.

Bristol Ridge (Carrizo desktop) should be 8K series, eventhou 8K series Godavari parts exist for OEM markets rolleyessmileyanim.gif

long time to waitng smile.gif Its nice to have collection of APUs. Next year I could to do test Llano vs Richland vs Kaveri vs Carizzo in few games and few aplications. Still I have one PC system with A8-5600K for my parents.

That would be nice! It would interest me whether it's worth waiting for the A10-7890K and if its worth purchasing it. I want to know if the iGPU is even faster than the A10-7870K's, but i think DDR3 RAM is already the bottleneck. I think i will go with the A10-7870K & making some benchmarks for YouTube.

I will try a modded skyrim tongue.gif.

I wish that the next APU could/would have DDR4 quad channel, then it would be fun :-)

Or dual channel on mini ITX tongue.gif. I hope, APUs will show their true potential on DDR4. It would be interesting too see the performance improvement of a A10-7870K at DDR3 vs A10-7870K at DDR4. But i can't wait until the release of new High-End APUs and AM4 mini ITX Mainboards. I think they will come Q3/4 2016.
