1800. I haven't tried to go any higher. I never could get past 1800 on my Crossblade Ranger. Then again I only putz around as opposed to putting much time into overclocking.

I just upped it from 1800 to 2000. No voltage change needed. Wonder why my CBR would not let me go past 1800?

Hard to say. Might be a VRM issue, or you might have needed to go into the Digi+ VRM settings in the UEFI and tweak your NB llc settings or current/overcurrent settings. For me, my A88x-Pro causes NB instability unless I leave my NB settings in the Digi+ menu at default, which is odd.

I have a A88X-Pro rig too. I have to try what you said. What does upping the NB speed accomplish as far as real world?

I just got my new mini itx build together and AMD Overdrive and my Bios show only two of my cores running at the target clock speed of 4500, while the others around 1700.

Here are my pc's specs:

GIgabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI
AMD A10-7870k
16 GB (8x2) Corsair Vengence 2400 ram
Sandisk Ultra Plus 256gb SSD
WD Blue 1tb HDD
XFX Radeon R9 390 8gb
Corsair Hydro Series H100i Cpu Cooler.
Windows 8.1

In AMD overdrive the CPU monitor shows the multiplier for core 0 and 1 at 45 and core 2 and 3 at 17. Monitoring the cpu in the gigabyte Bios it looks OK. Is there something wrong with my chip, or settings. I haven't adjust anything but the multiplier and turned off Turbo, Cool & Quiet, and C6. The cpu voltage is set at 1.475 (stock) and I havent' touched the NB yet.

I am nearly a total OC noob. I had my previous build of an athlon 760k running stable at 4500, but that was on a MSI A88xm-E45. The MSI Bios was easier to use, but obviously it wasn't a good OC board.

Now that I have a board with slightly better potential and actual voltage adjustment I'd like to get some more out of this new chip. Is there a setting I am missing?

Anything memory-intensive improves a bit. If you're using the iGPU, you can grab a few fps (especially in minimums), especially if your iGPU is overclocked to the point that memory bandwidth is holding back performance.

I think the Kaveri refresh did some good to the Kaveri owners.
I am running an A10-7850k w/ A88x-extreme6+ motherboard and along with the new microcode that the latest asrock bios delivered, the default clocks upped from 3.7GHz to 3.9 GHz.

if you see, the multiplier goes up to 40, I guess that's the rest of the boost that is left.

The same way you could say that FXs can do 8.7GHz+ since someone has managed to take a screenshot at that frequency.

Steamroller or Excavator based designs CANNOT operate properly at frequencies higher than 2400MHz. One of the reasons why the memory controller in Carrizo / Bristol Ridge is restricted to 2400MHz, even it supports DDR4. You can configure the DRAM Phy to output other frequencies (e.g. 2666, 2800, 2933, 3000, 3200), however it cannot operate stable at those speeds. AMD has validated the IMC in Steamroller at 2133MHz, which is already higher than the outsourced IP was originally designed to operate.

The IMC might be able to operate slightly higher than that without causing severe issues, but not without sacrificing the reliability and stability or without violating the electrical specifications (both signals and voltage levels). "Results" with sub-zero cooling, >1.625V DRAM VDD, >1.32V VDDNB or underclocked NB or GFX or single channel / half populated ranks don´t count either.

But obviously you know this stuff much better than I or AMD / Altera engineers do thumb.gif
I've heard a recent ram convention called "PnP memory" present in a recent series of ram. Are these two related in their implications?
-Nevermind, it wasn't as general as I thought. It only specifies Kingston's "Genesis" series, afaik.

The 7870k results give me a lot of hope for the 7890K (and the 880k) when it eventually comes out.

Would be cool to be able to hit 5Ghz reliably on these chips. (although I don't know how they compare to a 2500k).

fraid that's not likely
