[AG] The Witcher 3 Developers Assures Textures Remain the Same from 2013 - Page 13

It's never that simple otherwise all games would do that.

They already pushed the game back quite a bit and they claim they didn't have the resources for it. Optimizing and bug fixing is a very expensive process, professional beta testers are not cheap. Each time you add more graphic settings, the chances of graphical bugs multiplies and further complicates the optimization process. Most companies won't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay people to optimize advanced settings that less than 1% will run.

It was pre-rendered like most early game footage. Every scene was also cherry picked down to the camera angle and time of day. They basically show what they could do if hardware wasn't a bottleneck, and what they "thought" they would be able to do with hardware and new consoles by the time the game released. However, hardware development has drastically slowed down over the years. The new consoles were a disappointment.

They toned down after realizing their system requirements were already so high. If 2x Titan X are required to run the game at 4K, then it doesn't make much sense from a business perspective to put time/money into higher settings. It makes more sense to put your optimization teams on optimizing settings 99% of people will be running.

I have watched the video and there isn't much difference between what we are seeing there and some of the highend PC version videos. There are of course a few difference for better or worse but nothing really that astronomically different.

You are talking about the one at the Press Conference with the guy on stage holding the controller.

or there is this one:

http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/06/10/the-witcher-3-gameplay-demo-ign-live-e3-2014

This looks remarkably similar to the PC gameplay videos we have seen. I think a lot of people haven't actually downloaded much of the max PC videos and are rather basing everything off of internet rumors and console footage.

I think the largest difference is their is a color pattern difference, now whether or not that is display related or inherent to the title Im not sure.

I think the downgrade probably came with a big performance gain and that is a bad thing for people with beefy rigs. I have only a 290X and it might actually be a good thing for me to have the game running at higher fps, but I could see people with expensive rigs (like multiple Titan X's or 980's) be kind of disappointed by that.

There are not many games that are tailored for high end PCs and many people with enough horse power probably were looking forward to have a game that really taxes their high end rigs.

I hope we will get an enhanced edition or patch in the future to get increased graphical fidelity. Imho the differences between the PC version and console version are just too small. It seems like too many compromises that benefit the consoles were made during the last 2 years

Some of you really are looking to make an enemy of EVERY SINGLE creator of content out there. EVERY SINGLE ONE!

Listen 'victims.' Get out of gaming. It's obvious you'd be happier doing something else.

Think you can promise better and keep them, on a budget? Then do it.

There is a massive difference between the 2013 and 2014 videos. The biggest (only?) difference between the 2014 and what we got now is tessellation was greatly reduce to the point of being nonexistence which sadly makes everything look worse.

Yes I was referring to the 2014 and current videos. There is a difference between the 2013 video and today.

Though why people are referring to a 2 year old target video that was compiled from alpha build footage to what we are seeing today and discrediting all other recent relevant footage I have no idea.

It looks like more than just tessellation. Perhaps particle effects and various types of shadow changes as well.

If you look at the 2014 footage it is very similar to what we are currently seeing. Even then its a matter of level of tessellation not a complete lack of tessellation which could very easily be configurable.

Last week a customer of mine complained about my work and he was right. I didn't do it properly and didn't deliver on what I said I'd do.

Instead of whining and defending myself or quitting my job I went back and did it right.

I learned a valuable lesson in that when I don't deliver on what I said earlier then I might get complains and have to deal with them.

I was mad at first but the customer was right, because my mistakes were obvious and after I've calmed down a bit and admitted to my own mistakes.

People have to complain if something is out of order.
