[AG] The Witcher 3 Developers Assures Textures Remain the Same from 2013 - Page 4

Depends which scene you look at on Heaven and the models used. You can tell especially with the steeps going from steep slope to actual steps. The corners rounding out with tessellation enabled and the spikes on the dragon actually coming out instead of just flat plane.

It's possible, that would explain why they talked to one of the sites to remove the PS4 / PC comparison video because it was showing pre-release code but didn't say a word about them not having the right to have the game in that state. Then again, I don't see much advantage to give reviewers unfinished code. Sure, they can evaluate gameplay and the story and evaluate graphics later in the review process, that's possible.

Textures are the least of problems. The lighting and geometry will never get back to pre-downgrade levels.

Well, at least adding more tessellation options shouldn't require much work on their part and should improve the textures if they are indeed unchanged. The question is will they, or better yet, are they legally able to without some contractual fines from console makers?

I have to say that my standards are a bit high right now, after having played both The Talos Principle and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, as both use Photogrammetry (they don't even use Tessellation) and that gives you very detailed environments.

When those features are there, people will call it a console port because it's unoptimized. If see the requirements for the game they are very demanding. More demanding than crysis was relatively speaking.

Attitudes like this hold back progress.

It's not the graphics, it's the fact they lied and downgraded and are now in full damage control.

It sucks you quesiton anything in the industry these days and it's "you so entitled, here comes the master race loosers". It's why the industry gets worse every single year, because people are so thirsty to play every single video game and pre order them that the developers get away with ANYTHING.

Even in this very thread we have people not only defending bad policies/actions within the industry but spurring them on.

If you want something to feel "dark", it seems to me like it would be much better to have a more realistic, vibrant world and put the "darkness" in the actions and events. At least as opposed to just having an unbelievably drab and dull crapsack world where everything ever is depressing.
I agree about the colors; they're nice and real life doesn't look "dark and gritty". It's far more masterful to preserve the beauty of the natural world and reveal a darker side through good writing and monstrous natures rather than assuming the very human perception of "dark" imposes itself entirely upon the physical world itself. That's unrealistic.

If progress means you cannot appreciate games like The Witcher 3 because you are too wrapped up in your own entitled whining about something which really doesn't matter all that much about the game itself, I want no part of it.

Maybe I just had a completely different view on the past 12 months, but the downgrade to my eyes has been in place for a long time and the only thing surprising in the past month is that people are now choosing to freak out about it. That is why it seems disingenuous and elitist to me.

Should they be talking more openly about a downgrade? Maybe... but I don't think it matters at all when they are showing quite plainly what the game looks like. Can't we make up our own minds about it without them needing to tell us what we already know?

They certainly didn't do anything wrong by choosing to downgrade so that they could release on consoles. That's their choice to make as developers.

Generic internet hero logic. Will not continue this disaster.

I rather wish they put some of that graphics budget in to storytelling/writing which feels from 20years behind except a couple examples.
If anything needs progress it's that.

Although I love myself a good story and good writing, it is secondary in games. A great story can only be told once and a game worth its salt will have replay value. After the first playthrough you'll likely just skip through dialogues and story moments so you can carry on with the gameplay.

Well of course gameplay is the most important. But espcially in an rpg a story and characters are very important. Even if it it gets less in the following playthoughs, that is no excuse imo. And you can still have games with choices you can make to have a completely different experience.
I just feel that in all these years, story and especially characters have not improved at all, bar a couple exceptions.
If graphics have to take a downgrade because of better story, i take that trade any time.

This is all just a rant on this whole "hold progress back" anyway.
