4k vs 1440p? - Page 5

Personally I love my 1440 and that's actually going from 1080 to 1600 down to 1440. 1600 was great but a tad much at desktop settings. I can have 2 full windows side by side and not scroll horizontal in either and see it all even in excel spread sheets. Which I had 2 of these at work.

That's not a simple fact. Also, there is no 144hz IPS yet for a reason, so that always, never applies. Claiming facts about things that don't exist isn't a fact. If you think about it logically, when they put a 144HZ IPS panel in a 1440p monitor, what is to stop it from going in a 2160p monitor?

Until they are able to produce those kind of panels there is just no point in comparing it. It becomes speculation.

Anateus, sorry for my misinformation biggrin.gif quality remains subjective, same people like soft shadows others sharp, same with resolution vs refresh, but I was thinking there was none on the market so there was no comparison.

If it's anything competitive like DoTA/LoL, CSGO, even CoD or anything that requires super fast paced action, go with the 1440p. If you want multimedia consumption, single player games, etc go with the 4k.

A word to the wise, windows scaling for 4k is abysmal and 4k app/program support isn't the greatest at the moment. 4k is still in its baby stages and needs to mature before it's widely supported.

Windows scaling at 4K is fine

I don't think any monitor manufacturers will even consider high refresh monitors with 4K for a while since games barely run 60fps on Xfire/SLI setups currently. Even if they do, it'll be more about "doing it first" and not to make money off of it

True, especially when there are 5k and 8k already. And they have problems pushing 75Hz on 21:9 monitors...

I had to look for it again, I was checking if the rog swift 4k was ips or tn and saw the note.

Current DisplayPort bandwidth limits 4K resolution to 60Hz only, so, for fans of FPS/shooters, beat ‘em ups and competitive RTS (for example), we still recommend the fast-refresh PG278Q, while gamers who play MMOs, RTS, MOBA, 4X, Sims or action/adventure (again, for example) will likely prefer the greater resolution, and still benefit from G-Sync.
I haven't even bothered to look if anything is in the works frown.gif
