Fan Placement Question

Thread Starter
I'm trying to figure out what I should make my top fan either an intake or exhaust fan? I plan on replacing my side panel with a window so I'll be taking away the intake from that side.

I'll be running either a OC'd 4690k or a OC'd 4790k not sure on GPU and not sure if rear exhaust will be enough so it come down to the top fan any thoughts?

Thats kinda of what I was thinking but wasn't sure if having more intake would be better than more exhaust. I guess with the front intake fan, the vented drive bay covers and the vent behind the mobo tray it should get plenty of intake so a second exhaust would be better....... thanks

In my past experience I always get better temps with more exhaust than intake. That said, i only have exhaust fans in my rig atm. thumb.gif

How about using the front vent as another intake? Best is front to back airflow. Using top as exhaust move heated air from GPU up around CPU cooler. Also remove unused PCIe back slot covers so front to back airflow aournd GPU has somewhere to exhaust .. especially sense you are removing the side vent for a window. "Ways to Better Cooling" thread linked below might be helpful. Lots of info about airflow, filter and grill resistance, fan control, etc.

Yea I was planning on using the front as an intake and rear as exhaust I'm going to replace the two fans that came with the case with better ones

Use the top vents on your front panel as an intake, placing a fan in there if you can. That top rear vent can be either intake or exhaust, or just close it off. Negligible temp. differences with either three (assuming a front to back oriented tower cooler), so just do what you prefer.

Front on top as intake may be okay, but not with back vent on top as exhaust .. that make an an airflow loop between the two top fans.

Not sure what you mean? Having a top fan as a intake is OK but not as a exhaust?

Don't have adjacent fans in the same panel going in different directions. If they are perpendicular to each other then it's okay. What you want is uniformity in airflow.
