Could get a better mobo on the i5, but not necessary. Even if you upgraded to H97 the prices would still be very close and not cheap enough to make the FX a better option for gaming.

another 2 cents worth why would he even pick a locked I5-4460 over a 6300 much less an 8 series.. now I know cpu boss is full of it at times, but I ran the test that they had listed minus the the standard geekbench (couldn't find it) and it and besides geekbench not being able to pick up my correct cpu speed, the 6300 win though CPU boss says otherwise..

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4460-vs-AMD-FX-6300

geekbench 32 and 64 bit..

now in passmark it did beat it in the single core (given) but not in the cpu mark..

and the 6300 cost less.. granted he wants an 8 core,,,

Because the i5 is better in gaming?

Those things you linked are meaningless.

A 83xx chip needs to be clocked at approximately 4.8GHz to match a i5-4460's gaming performance @ 3.2GHz. They will have about the same IPC when the 83xx part is clocked that high, but to do so you would need a high end cooler for the 83xx chip.

Forget the 63xx chips all together.

I myself am running the 990fx killer with the 8320e@5ghz on good air cooling and yes you will see nice gains. It's a shame you don't have microcenter as the 8320e is $99 and the 990fx killer is $134 -$40 when bought together.

I can't believe people are still using passmark to gauge gaming performance. You use games or game engine benchmarks to gauge gaming performance. Just like you'd use render based benchmarks to gauge render performance. Passmark for gaming is about as helpful as looking at spec sheet stats.
