New Intel build help

Thread Starter
Hey guys, recently I bought a i7-4790k off the retail edge and I plan on rebuilding my sig rig. I plan on giving almost all my current parts to upgrade my family's computer back home. I picked out the Asus z97 Pro motherboard from this thread and was looking for some advice on other parts.

I plan on gaming, overclocking it, and some school stuff. I plan on keeping my case, h100, and xfx r9 290. So i'll need new ram and psu. I've used a few calculators for my new psu and some say 1100, some say 700, so i'm not so sure how much i'll actually need. If i can get another r9 290 i'll go crossfire when the 300 series drops, assuming the r9 price comes way down.

Currently i'm looking at either
This power supply, corsair 750w
or
This power supply, corsair 850w

For the ram i've looked everywhere, saw this deal on newegg and thought about it.

Let me know what other info you guys will need, i'll actively check back here.
Thanks in advance

Look around here for your PSU:
http://www.overclock.net/t/183810/faq-recommended-power-supplies#user_400-499W
I would recommend XFX and Seasonic. Corsair is usually overpriced.
As for the ram, just pick whichever sticks are cheapest, you wont notice huge difference in performance (make sure you cpu/mobo supports its speed).

As for the wattage, you will be okay with quality 600W unit (if you want to OC). I would advise to just buy stronger one after you buy 2nd card, not before.

okay so between xfx and seasonic does gold/platinum rating matter that much?

80 plus has nothing to do with quality or rated output.
Why 80 PLUS® is Irrelevant to You When Buying a PSU

And there are lots of other good options besides just Seasonic XFX and Corsair.

You dont need anwhere near 850 watt for your system.
Again if you are not going to add more cards or volt mod all you need is 550 watt nothing more.
