I still doubt this is the case but if really so that they didn't even put the more efficient memory system that Tonga brought to other cards besides Fiji.

2 over 0 is still an infinite factor more cards with HBM than Nvidia will have out by then.
But I agree if this is true then this completely sucks for everyone except the OCN rich boys.

Perhaps they didn't have enough resources to use HBM for all models. Or perhaps they wouldn't be able to segment prices with it.

Either way, if you want HBM, you have to pay for it. That had been the plan and expectation all along. Nothing changed. There's absolutely no reason to complain.

I still dont understand who is the idiot who choose 512bit 5Ghz over 384bit 7Ghz setup. Clearly the 384bit would have allow the PCB to cost lower, with memory compression from tonga, they could easily rework to fit Hawaii on 384bit memory bus without any performance loss.

if Nvidia start to price GM204 competitively, in no way AMD could even make a profit off Hawaii chip to fight GM204.

But would increase die size. They explicitly mentioned that the memory controller in Hawaii is smaller than the one in Tahiti, there is no way they could have made a smaller bus with the same bandwidth. Developing a new chip would cost a lot and take up resources that are needed to make the Arctic Islands lineup as good as possible next year.

The memory on GM204 costs more so the only real savings for Nvidia are from power delivery and the PCB, which is mostly offset by R&D expenses, Hawaii is an older chip.
