Let me think,
a 7870 -> 270x -> 370
is that right?
There's also the 8870 (OEM) in between the 7870 and 270X.

With rebrand comes improved firmware of a chip. Massive optimizations, usually. I see this as a great opportunity to flash my GPU to the newer R9 of my similar model providing there isn't many differences.

Seriously, lame. Fiji's going to be awesome (and I would buy it), but we're literally on rebrands of rebrands of rebrands now with some of these parts (like Pitcairn). Is this AMD's strategy? Seriously? No new microarchitecture to compete with Nvidia?

I hope they know what they're doing and are planning some major recovery with Arctic Islands, but I simply don't see it. These things take time and money and AMD are running rather short. Also, lame if it's true Fiji is limited to the same architectural level as Tonga.

Hawaii's a good performer, but its age and relative inefficiency aren't good enough for a new mid 2015 product.
I hope they are doing something special with Arctic Islands. As for the money they are more going steady than running short considering they won't have any debt due till 2019. Along with the 100 million extra R&D funds that 3rd parties pay for essentially for their semi custom co development program this should give them the headroom they need to complete the Zen and Arctic designs on time and in a satisfactory manner.

Well that is of course what I hope.

I am not sure I follow, do they not have to pay dept before 2019 or are they done paying dept in 2019?

They won't have to pay debt until 2019. 2019 is when their debt is due a good thing considering their 2013 situation was quite dire.

So they have to pay 600M $in 2019? thats quite a lot considering their current earnings or lack of :/

2019 is 2,5 year from now though so it's not bad. Better than coughing up 580M in 2015 and 500M in 2017 for AMD's long term "strategy".

A rebrand at 8 gig for 300 would be yummy.
